not sure, but if it is it's because the Empire had to make them tougher to handle the wookiees. They reinforced the frame and legs so they made it shorter so it wouldn't topple over

You're right cicrush
I had discussed this a few weeks ago with my friend (one of the wookiepedia ambassadors) and he said it was so they could maneuver more easily through the forest as well as be less likely to fall over

I heard that it's because it's painted green, and the color green, like the color black, has a slimming effect.

AT-ST?! I always thought it was a really large Wookiee, so-named because it hunted AT-STs! Goodness me, was I wrong. =P

Er guys, could it just be that the model is smaller? If you look at all the measurements it is scaled down. The "head" is smaller, the feet are smaller, the rocket pods are smaller. I just think we might be reading too much into it. It could just be that WotC learned their lesson from the Universe set and made it smaller to fit in the box easier. Just a thought. I agree that the figure is smaller but not all of the models are exactly to scale. All I'm saying

I can't believe I just looked it up on Wookiepedia. And the results were most disatisfying. Firstly, WotC can't even get the name right, it's an AT-KT apparantly. Secondly, there is no indepth discussion as to why the SWM models might be of differing size - where is all the taxpayers money going! And thirdly, if they have ambassadors, does that mean there is a Wookiepedia Embassy and how can I arrange a visit:)
