I'm just wondering why 300 Point Format is not a legal format.....it seems logical with a 115 point figure and many 80 point figures.
Could anybody who sees this please respond because it rly doesn't make sense to me?

People probably figure that 300-point games would take too long and would be too big for any of the legal maps (at least that's what I think).

I dont disagree with you guys but what does it being legal have to do with it? If it's a fun match why not? Put in a house rule stating all minis must be at least 20 points and duke it out. If you are talking of a tourney of some sorts that may be different...60 10 point figures would drag a game out for sure LOL

At my LGS we played a 300 point tournament once and limited it to no more than 16 pieces. The games went well and were a blast.

It isn't so much the game taking too long, but that is definately a possibility in a competitive enviroment. The main issue is that the game was designed for 100 pts for the first 3 sets, and then with 200 in mind. The game begins to break down when you go over 200. When you have to make certain limitations on what figs or how many figs you can use, then that is an indication that the game doesn't really work at that format.

Most 300 games are fun. Most have not powergamed at that level with optimized squads. Seriously, commanders like Grievious DAC, Rieekan/Wedge and the Twi'lek Vigo, GOWK, Flobi, they just go way beyond what you see at 200. And you may think that Sith/OR/Vong/Mando get better at that format, but they really don't. The strong only get stronger.

300 point formats are 1 of my favorite formats. We play them every couple of months. And yes the Stronger Factions do get stronger, but some of the Lesser Factions Do Also. Mandalorians and Sith get Quite a bit better. Now i will say that at my League we play more of whats fun than what is the best. So we dont generally play activation control or Rieekan, unless we are getting ready for a big match like regionals or Gen-con. It is Kind of an unwritten rule with us. Most of the Maps are pretty good as long as you dont get a youngling swarm or the battle droid swarm. But you do see alot of stuff you normally wouldnt. Like a more effective Uliq bodyguard squad( canderous, Uliq, boba, holosid, and Mando Captain, is a great squad with some more fodder and some other good mando shooters).

We've played quite a few 300-500 point matches, however, when we do this, we use a "modified" rule set that is much more comparable to warhammer then actual SWM when creating squads. Much more "squad" based with large armys of troopers and droids with a few unique units and restrictions on certain CE's (our last match my cousin played a sep army with 40 battledroids, broken into 5 "squads", each squad supported by a droid commander, two Super Battle Droids, and a Destroyer droid with Grevious at the helm. It was very impressive when he had it all set up.). We don't use any of the meta pace control pieces or any Mas pieces or any pieces whose sole purpose are to create a meta. (heck, we don't even use these in our small games) We also use a much larger wet-erase map for these games, and each side draws their own half. Usually played in teams but have done just one on one. Its a much different game than what is played "competitively" but extremely fun. OF course, when we play its usually Monday night so we're either watching football or wrestling and consuming adult beverages. that always makes it fun!

While sithborg is right, I feel that if you change all commander effects and special abilities to range 6, and ban Mas, you could go a along way towards getting rid of some of that breakdown. Given, its not a perfect system, but it could work better than it does now.

Also, 300-500 is fun, but yea, takes a good long time, sometimes.

A simple activation cap of 15 or so should suffice, I would think.

Again, if you have to modify the base rules to make a format fit, than it is not a valid tournament format, and just a fun format. The game just begins to break down because it wasn't design for that format.

Darth Vader, Dark Jedi is an obvious example of things that could go wrong in squads over 200pts, and why there would be a need for either banning figures or making house rules to stop things getting silly.

Aren't Soresu Style Mastery, Rigid, Gambit, one activation for the first in a round all modifications of the base rules? They work so well most players use them in "fun"
games.

All it would take is someone (don't look at me) to work out sound rules, play test them, get LOTS of poeple interested, then have Dean and group accept them.

WHEW!!!!

Soresu Style Mastery and Override broke the game, and thus the fixes. And they each affect a different aspect of something that doesn't work in the game. You have to make so many changes, that it isn't the same game. It is a special format like Dynamic Duo and Tile Wars. To say otherwise is silly.

Dynamic Duo and Tile Wars are valid tournament formats.

Isn't changing the game what keeps it fresh? Won't the release of the eagrly awiated V-Set make it no longer the same game?

Don't get me wrong, I plan to buy a "good" set of cards and am excited by more to come.

Make 300 pts a special format, see what happens.

I like the 300 pt game. I also like the idea of a cap like 15 activations. If I remember right, There was a huge concern going from 150 to 200 . the concern was the time factor. That said, I'm sure a lot of players would abuse the Dadona, Reikan combo. The question is, Does a 300 pt format make teams like this unbeatable. I'm not sure. The intent is good but I'm just not sure.

If you're playing at home, a FLGS, library, whereever, go ahead and play 300 point games. They can be quite fun, but will usually take longer to play due to the larger amount of figures.

As for the other suggestion of limiting the # of figs, go for it. Have some fun with it. We've done this with fun games with our weekly league. It's fun for occassional games. But personally I don't want to see Floor rules mandating that. It would eliminate squad-based figs and so many other figs and squad options it would ruin the game.

Sanctioned games (Regionals and GenCon) will not support either idea currently. Dean and crew at Gamers are asking for Floor Rules changes/updates/etc from all of us. Suggest it. If the format allows good, balanced, fair games, it may be added. If not, it won't.

I think there would be a decent amount of people pushing for a 300 point game, and honestly it really couldn't hurt to have the format legalized....if people would rather play 200 or 150 then that's cool, but the more format options never hurt.
