I missed the first half but I did see Asajj kill a clone commander. Does anyone know who it was? Was it an Arc Trooper Commander? And who was 99?

So you only saw part of the second episode, "ARC Troopers?" Too bad.
Yes, it was an ARC. 99 was the defect clone. You need to see the first episode "Clone Cadets" to get the most out of who 99 was.
I loved both episodes. "Clone Cadets" was the perfect prequel to "Rookies". I didn't realize it till they named Heavy, but I suspected with Echo and his personality. "ARC Troopers" was awesome as well. Need more Asajj/Greivious.

No idea who the Clone Commander was. I was wondering the same thing myself. But 99 was a Clone that was unfit for duty. So he was assigned to Kamino. Here is what wookieepedia has for him so far. 9999 was a malformed clone of Jango Fett, deemed to be unfit for service in the Grand Army of the Republic. He was instead assigned cleaning and maintenance duties in the cloning facilities of Tipoca City, Kamino. He was killed while trying to get more weapons in the defense of Kamino. Ya Ninja-ed my post Sithborg. Beat me to it.

I thought "ARC Troopers" was among the best episodes of the series so far. I also like the interaction between Greivous and Ventress, and Ventress was superb.
I have been waiting for ARC Troopers to appear for some time, and overall I liked thier debut. The armor had to be distinct from Rex's to avoid confusion, and it makes sense to use Phase III armor for the elite troops as it would be in its initial trials during this time before distributed to the bulk of the troops. The double pauldron look was interesting. We really didn't get a great look at their fighting prowess, so I hope we see more of them in the future. I also get the sense that ARCs will be just highly trained troops rather than the genetically created super soldiers we are used to.
At the end though, during the promotion scene Rex/Cody mentions something to the effect that if Kamino needs defending then it would need good ARC Troopers like them. I hope ARCs will not be relagated to just defending Kamino, as I'd like to seem them in the thick of things. Thoughts on this?

My thoughts. It didn't click with me that the clones in the first episode were the Shineys from season 1 until the second episode where I saw the hand print on his armour. I found that to be a really good way of doing things. It also makes space for some unique clone minis... lol.
But yeah I thought the ARC Troopers episode worked really well. I thought for a bit they were gonna keep it really accurate with the Graphic Novel account of the assault on Kamino (becaue Shaak Ti was there), but that didn't happen. I think they did a good job though telling the story. Although it seems to have slightly changed how ARC Troopers are made. I thought they were bred like that.
As for the rest of the season, it looks pretty good from the trailor at the end. I am excited for it.

I really liked the tie-ins to 'Rookies' episode. I caught the names right away, but mostly since they did tie-in action figures for that episode so the name stuck with me. The opening monologue to 'ARC troopers' even recounts the 'Rookies' episode on the Rishi moon. Filoni did say that there would be a lot more development of characters in Season 3 and already we see that in the background characters.
Was Boba Fett one of the young cadets they passed in the hallway right at the beginning of 'ARC Troopers'? Sure looked like him with the long hair and grumpy look as he stares at Echo and Fives in passing.
Agreed Ventress stole the scenes. Grievous pulled his regular "do a flip and jump in a ship and run away" move he uses so often in this series. The lightsaber battles were fun though. Great combat in both episodes even if in a simulator, but also story line that ties things together and helps with the characters.
Sergeant Bric was a cool addition - not a likable character, but that is his role. Would have made a cool mini to bolster the clones and make them playable with some CE or SA. I'm sure we will see plenty of ARC action as I don't think we are finished with Kamino yet.

Just re-read the ARC Trooper page on Wookiepedia to see what additions were made. Bare in mind these are "guesses" as to how the events of the episode fit in with what we already know canocally. Apparently this was the Third Battle of Kamino, separate from the "Defense of Kamino" Graphic Novel that introduced the ARCs.
Also, it states (and stated before season 3 as I remember reading it) that towards the end of the war when ARC numbers fell that clones who proved themselves were promoted to the status of ARC Troopers. So all in all, it seems they have not messed with the "bred that way" ARCs as of yet.
The article also has a picture of ARC Commander "Colt." And its Phase II not Phase III as I stated earlier (my bad), but the armor is growing on me the more I see it.

Actually, what the ARCs in the episode had was sort of like phase 1.5 (expanded T-visors, but still had the fin). In the episode guide, Filoni said that the ARCs get to try out the advanced equipment first, so they were prototypes, I guess. He also hinted that the switch to phase II will happen over the course of this season.

The newest episode fell well short of the first two in my opinion. Its this kind of inconsistency that frustrates me a bit. You have two great episodes back to back last week, and now you have abit of a downer.
What I liked:
New Jedi New Clone Commander (cool armor) Noble sacrifice of the two at the end
What I disliked:
I had a sound echo that was annoying, don't know if everyone experienced that Diplomacy (what is this Star Trek?) Jar Jar Overall, I kind of felt the episode served no purpose to the overall series (space holder?)
What are your thoughts?

The season premiere was okay, and the training simulators were pretty cool, but I think at this point Lucas is individualizing the clones TOO much. Whatever happened to "obey orders without question" like Lama Su said they do? When one almost goes AWOL, they're no better than hired soldiers, and probably more expensive. The ARC Troopers episode was a little disappointing; I was hoping for something more drawn out that would show Grievous' true tactical genius. Instead, once again, he just lets the battle droids wander around blasting things. wampafang wrote:The newest episode fell well short of the first two in my opinion. I had that same weird echo-y sound as well. The Ryloth episode would've been good if it wasn't for Jar Jar. And I thought they could've gone at least a couple of episodes with the Nikto Jedi (aptly called "Master Di) before killing him off; also, where's the emotional music when he dies? And is it just me, or is Lott Dod's face a lot more detailed than Nute Gunray's?

Now that you mention it, I don't think haven't seen an episode where Grievous is anything more than a cowardly lackey. Not sure if we've seen him have tactical genious. Keep in mind, they have upgraded a LOT of their models. While they will likely not change Gunray's, I wouldn't be surprised if it looks a little tweaked. Anakins and Obi's looked better, especially after seeing a Season 1 episode.
The sound was annoying, it was even there on the rerun this morning. As for the Jedi, what would you expect from Jedi Master Ima Gun Di? Should've let him live just to mess with people's heads.

I think that they will improve Gunnray's model by the time we see him next. They seem to make little tweeks to all the models each time they use them to keep them current. I liked this most recent episode, but if this season is going to have so many prequels and follow-ups to other episodes, a timeline would be nice. Looking forward to the next one. I wonder if Lucas will be voicing Baron Papanoida himself?

So what did we think of Episode 4 then?
I was disappointed that all the members of the family survived the bar shootout. I liked their blasters though.

Well, these epidsodes away from the war itself are not my cup of tea, but Papanoidia's fighting prowess was a bit of a shock. His double-blaster scene in the cantina was kind of cool. It was nice to see Tatoine/Mos Eisley/Jabba's Palace, but I was disappointed in Greedo. I think it would have been better had he spoken his rodian language and had subtitles. I know in earlier episodes on Rodia, they spoke Basic, but it would have been more nostalgic if Greedo did not. I felt the same way with Bossk's first appearance. That's just me. Overall, these are not my type of episodes, and it looks like next week will disappoint me as well (I will still watch though).

If WotC decides to make more SWM (doubt it), they need a Chairman Papanoidia Mini!

I'm hoping that these chain of events will lead to a change in philosophy on Mandalore away from pacificsm as they realized they need to be more confrontational to survive if they remain neutral. Maybe we will get closer to the Mandalore we know and love.
