Bloomilk needs a project.

I’ve been thinking about ways to help bloomilk become a bit more involved in what happens next in the game.

In a lot of ways conflicts like the ones we all get embroiled in are direct results of boredom. It reminds me a lot of month 5 on a naval deployment. Everyone has just about had it with the routines on a ship, by month 6 everyone is so excited to get home that they forget about month 5. But typically month 5 is where tempers flare.

We haven’t had a new product in 9 months, and let’s face it; MOTF was probably the worst set they ever released for a lot of us. Yeah some custom maps came out and that great but we lets face it we’re all running out of things to talk about

SWMgamers is doing a lot behind the scenes for the V-set, and it’s probably doing much to occupy a lot of peoples time. I think Bloomilk needs to do the same.

I’d like to brainstorm with everyone on things we can work on here to get our minds off all the other BS.

Here are challenges that were going to face in the future that need to be addressed

- Future V-sets. Why not start doing preliminary planning so that we can get out another set sooner than later? The groundwork that bloomilk does now can become the foundation for the next V-set.
- Future Maps. I am at the point where I can’t devote all my time exclusively to SW minis and I am going to need help designing and play testing future products. I think getting a group together here to draw out the layouts that Josh and I do in the future is a great thing to work on.
- Prize support-where will it come from? What is it going to be? How do we come up with the means to provide support for OP? Again If there’s anyone here at bloomilk serious about making a HUGE difference this is the job for you
- Future events- Regional Events (not regional Championship) are vital to keeping OP alive. It has to be more than just Regional and Gencon every year. Bloomilk members should do their part to keep these events going throughout the year.

These are just some examples of the work that still needs to be done, any other ideas??

Remember if you don’t put the work into something your whining privileges get revoked.

Good ideas, JC.

You forgot another option. Play the game.

I think you're getting at that in the Future Events section. Maybe regional events isn't the best term because of the potential confusion with Regional Championships as you note. Maybe it's Local Events.

But people could actually be playing the game. Enjoy it. BlooMilk and forums are meant to ADD to your enjoyment of the game, not replace your time playing it.

Local events can be very routine -- weekly, 2x per month, once per month, whatever. Don't always play at home. Play in a store where people can see you, ask about the game, and get interested. Post fliers in the store so people know you'll be there and not just hope for them to stumble upon you.

Play online. Playing against some of the people you post with can help you get to know them better. And it helps your game as you see different strategies, squad ideas, and figures used.

There are some fun things that Minis Mayham at d20radio and SW Miniverse are doing to fill in the time between v-sets, Regionals, and GenCon. Participate. Keep the fun of playing the game instead of typing what you don't like about it.

Here's a potential way to define your challenge. Let's track how many stores host an event each month. Track it by state, province, and country. An example with made-up numbers:

Area Jan Feb Mar Apr May

AZ 1 1 1 2 2
MO 2 2 2 2 2
NH 2 2 6 6 8
PA 1 2 1 0 0
Germany 1 1 1 1 1

When we see if we're gowing, shrinking, or staying stable, we can challenge ourselves to increase the numbers.

What get's measured get's done.

And we'll need a stickied thread that lists stores where people play. Sometimes there's one closer than we're aware of. Sometimes we have to drive a little. Sometimes we have to make the effort to get involved with a store.

Excellent point, We play at other public places to, especially the Public Library. I have a pile of extra stuff I give away when someone shows interest and wants to play.

But yeah Playing locally is extremeley important, and regional events is actually pretty poor wording on my part.

Another good point, the forums should enhance, not replace.

As far as future V-Sets go, 11 of us have submitted custom sets in the unofficial set contest in the Custom forum. We need everyone to vote as many pieces from these sets are viable additions to "official" future V-sets. This is on top of the 20+ sets from the custom contest Shinja hosted early this year.

I was thinking the same thing when I first read JC's post. As it is now, various members keep threads about their local events, but a list of venues hosting games (and contact info) organized by state/province and city would be a useful resource indeed.

I will give this some thought. Any additional input on Chargers's ideas would be great.

I like the idea of a stickied thread about all the locations to play at, but I think we ought to keep a bit more of a tab on it then just tourneys in the month.

Stuff we could keep track of:
Tourneys in the past months, per Chargers suggestion
Attendees to the tourneys
Returning player/ new player ratio?
Date of last tourney
Date of next scheduled tourney
Contact info for the store

Some of this is obviously mroe important than others, and im not suggesting it all needs to be tracked in one thread. Why would a potential player whos looking for a venue care what the returning player/ new player ratio is? Does anyone really (mostly just to help track growth of the game). Some of this stuff might be something for someone to keep track of in an Excel file or some other kind of database. if you want your stuff on record, just email the info to that person who tracks it all, and uploads the important parts to the thread.

While its important to know that the game is being played, so we know if its dying out in an area, just knowing that we meet weekly in Carbondale Illinois isnt enough info if you dont know that last month we had two weeks in a row with 1-2 people who showed up, but the most recent two meets had 5 and 4 respectively.

Yea, our attendance is falling, and I cant seem to get people to make it back. However, several of our regulars are father-son combos who have other stuff going on as well, so you cant really blame them.

Even if we just keep track of whose coming to events and see what we can do. It can be a simple thing.

As you all know I'm working on creating league kits, and that will get us some prize support for events.

Without new booster packs coming up with other prizes can be tough. Obviously if the league kits with maps works out, we'll do another one. But heres some other ideas.

- Donating those bad penny rares(you might have 4 Luke Skywalkers Hero Of Yavin like me and really only need one. A new guy would love to get a one, and it's more useful as a prize than it is a trade.

- Use entry fees to buy store credits. This will encourage the LGS owners to keep hosting SW events.

I too believe Bloomilk needs a project. That way the 2 sites can work hand in hand (even if doing different tasks) in building the future.

Great stuff guys, wish I could help

I would like to see a vote for pieces people want to see that don't have a mini. Maybe like a bracket, with the dozens and dozens of characters that don't have a mini yet. And the vote or whittle it down to 20 to 30 figs that will go into the next v-set.

And then a totally separate bracket for pieces that have a mini, but need a new one for some reason. (Jedi that are not playable now, fringe Han, Republic C-3PO) and vote that down to 20 or 30 pieces

as people make suggestion, they can discuss possible stat and abilities (new or old) they think the figs should have.

Also, maybe someone can scout other minis games that can be used for V-set peices. Maybe there's a Heroclix that looks like a rebel, or a D&D mini that would make a good alien

This isn't really, a "what minis you want to see" thread, this is more of a "what kind of stuff needs to happen to keep the game going" thread.

I most certainly encourage that we open up that dialogue, Just not here!BigGrin
