I was wondering if anyone has given thought as to how to make a halfway decent Gryph custom, and what "parts" you might consider using from other figures to do so?

Obviously the head, and possibly hands, from the Snivvian Fringer are going to be central, but I'm a bit flummoxed as to what to do for his portly torso and bare feet.

I've been considering using the torso from the Tavern Brawler figure from D&D Minis since he's close in scale and has the belly the Gryph would need. Not sure what to do about the feet though. Maybe I'll just assume that Gryph is wearing boots as part of some conman's disguise. That wouldn't be out of character for him. Hmm, I might even keep the spilling beer mug. I don't think that would necessarily be out of character for him either. BigGrin

Not the best picture of the Tavern Brawler, but...

Any suggestions?

I was trying to work out a Gryph last year for the New Lost Twenty project. I couldn't settle on a final design, but I was giving thought to using the Trandoshan Scavenger (TCW #39) for the legs, cut off just above the knees. This was the best I could think of, but there's a couple of problems. First the shins are too long, but those could be trimmed down. Second, they have too few toes.
The biggest problem I had with Gryph was body portioning. There are good parts out there, but getting them to fit together naturally was a pain. It vexed me for few weeks before going on to work on something else. Hope you have better luck with him!

I haven't tried it myself, but the Human Farmer (DDM) body with a Snivvian Fringer head seems like a good bet to me. One of the New Lost Twenty guys tried it and it looked pretty good. If I can dig up the link, I'll post it later.

Speaking of the NL20, our stats are finalized and I'm hoping to post them for everyone's perusal later today or tomorrow.

Is this what you were looking for?

Not my best paint job; Cutting the pig out is the hardest part but otherwise ...... I cheated on the feet; it was late at night and I said to myself "Is he Always barefoot?"

Ooooooh! That doesn't look bad at all. I may have to try that idea. And I've certainly got a few extras of that Farmer lying around here. Thank you both for the idea and the picture!

Hmmm. Although I may leave the pig in. I don't trust in my abilities to cut him out of the sculpt without hacking the sculpt up too much. I think what I'll do instead is repaint the pig gold. I could see the ever profit minded Gryph snatching a gold statue up and carrying it off on his way out the door. And maybe I'll replace the empty right hand with one holding a blaster... Hmm.

Nice... but Gryph really shouldn't have a weapon.
