Thank goodness I'm not the targeted demographic,the look is based on the twilight movies feel and look. So if you weren't into them then I highly doubt you'll be into this movie.

The stories are nothing a like based on numerous news items that come out when the trailer frist hit and anyway Leonardo DiCaprio came up with the idea, “Wouldn’t it be cool to do a Gothic twist on Red Riding Hood, with the wolf being a werewolf, and just have a cool, sexy romantic thriller?” His company, Appian Way, commissioned David Leslie Johnson who wrote “Orphan” with them to write the screenplay. so yea the orginail stories themselves may have nothing in common but they movies will....

The stories are nothing a like Forbidden love with a super natural creature. Overt, in-your-face symbolism, competition among two males for the fair maiden. Standard soap opera fare. Looks like the same story to me. I love how they walk across a snow covered mountain top and he doesn't leave any footprints. Ah, the magic of green screen.
