is there a way to see how much attack, defense and damage a mini has in a vassal game? or do you just gotta know it from the cards?

You just have to know it.
Some people like to mark the condition if the mini with the atk/def values if they don't want to look up the stats.
Personally, I like building mine and my opponent's squads in mini manager, then compare the two and leave that open in another window.

I have a sheet for the squads I use with all that information and I have minimanger running and try to add their squad into a squad for ease and use that to check on their figs.

If you really want to. You could also set up a map with corresponding pieces and cards in the room with you and your computer so you can have a more 3D look and maybe can see / think more clearly than on a 2D computer screen. Then you can keep track like your really playing with someone in the room and keep track of stats. I know it may be a lot of work.

minis manager or bloomilk on a second monitor works great for me if I'm too lazy to get the cards.

Also, someone created a mod to the program that shows the stats in the figure picture. I'll post up a link to it when I get home tonight.

This shouldn't be a problem. I started playing on Vassal in the past half year and what I've seen is that people there work well with newbies. I've since been able to pay-forward the attention/kindness shown to me and would do so again.

I agree. 99% of those on vassal are good folks who are not hesitant to teach a new player the ins and outs of the software. If you get one of the folks who are not top notch, then just wait for someone else and jot his name down and skip him next time you return :)

For knowing stats I'm just a nerd and have the whole game memorized. If you want someone to play on vassal PM me with a time you'd like to get together and play. I don't mind teaching someone who is willing to learn.
