Heya.
We're just about to start a Vassal comp. with the Save11 guys (my group) and I want to put a time on games so you have the option of getting 3pts or 2pts (a'la Gencon)... but in a warmup game last night with an, albeit inexperienced, opponent and I found that after an hour, the game wasn't as far through as I would have figured for the time. I have noticed Vassal games are slower... what's the consensus out there? Should the timelimit be the hour? Or are Vassal games just longer? Should I be catering for a 'newer' field of competitors and making the games a littel longer? Or should I be pushing them towards a more legit time (since I am trying to grow my group to a more competition standard)? What do they do in the Vassal Regional in the US? Are their too many questions?

In the Vassal leagues I have seen the time limit goes to about 70 or 80 minutes. Vassal games do tend to be slower and I find that skype helps out a lot at speeding things up.

ok as the guy that first came up with sanctioned tourney's via vassal I probably should like make a guide to help folks.
but to answer your questions here are some simple guidelines to go buy.
When running a tourney on vassal you have to have a judge. You have to. Questions need to be answered and someone needs to do it. Great thing about vassal is you can go worldwide to find a willing judge.
Second, Skype really cuts down the time. You really need folks to utilize it.
Third, I follow these time guidelines for vassal
200 point tourney = 75 minutes per round
150 point tourney = 70 minutes per round
100 point tourney = 60 minutes per round
