Hey people, yea i been checking out alot of the custom's users have been making & i gotta say they are ridiculous, amazing artwork & kudo's to all of you's who do it. Lily Wan in paticular i've seen alot of that user's & they are off the chart, so props to Lily. Props to all of you's.

Anyways i wanted to start getting into creating custom figures, i'd like to make myself a set of figures for DOTF figures & i know theres new v-sets in the making so would like to start getting the supplies i need.

So question is, where do i get the supplies online to start making customs & what key supplies do i need. I know its best to use extra mini's & work on customs off of those. I'd like to do that & also is there anyone who knows what type of plastic is used for the mini's for molding new shapes instead of just repainting. & also whats the best paint to use? Lol basically if anyone can give me some info & help me out i'd appreciate it, would really like to start getting into it.

Maybe some links online where i can find stuff & what types of supplies i would need. Thanx in advance.

Bobby,
Great to hear you're getting started. Here's some of what I use to make my customs:

* Other miniatures as a base (like you said)
* Single-edge razor blades (though most people use an Xacto Knife, which is what I started with)
* Krazy Glue (I use the "pen" form)
* Paint brushes, size 000, 00, 0 and 1.
* Liquitex Acrylic paint. Recommended: Ivory Black, Titanium White, Primary Red, Yellow (not Medium Azo), Cerulean Blue and Raw Umber.
* Some knowlegde of colour theory.
* I occasionally use Testors Enamel paint but not as often.
* Silver and Gold paint pens
* Sculpey
* A small file or sand-paper
* Odd bits such as wire, pins and needles.
* Always keep every scrap you cut off a miniature. They will come in useful later.

I buy my supplies locally, not online. They're based in my art background and not in model building/painting specifically, so other customisers will certainly have different advice. Try a variety; you'll soon find what suits you best.

cheers

This is a topic I've always wondered about myself... I know a guy who makes his own minis as well and that got me into thinking about trying it... One question I have is does it require a steady hand? and are these things we could find at wal-mart? I know I've had several ideas about different minis I would like to create
