here's the layout. tabletop style battle, meaning the wotc maps are not being used. though there will be cover and what not but probably not that many.

here's the challenge. create a 100 or 150 point squad that counters darth vader unleashed + emperor palpatine on throne

the main problem that i have is the force grip and the lightsaber throw, which gets rather annoying. so who's up to the challenge to create a squad to count them? remember, since this is a tabletop style, door controls can be ignored. so go wild on your creation!

Im not following. Are there Tiles we can use?
If theres no 'squares' How do I target Vader for an ability that would be normally be range of 6?
Is it Warhammer style?

The best Counter to Vader Unleashed is......BFBH. 1 shot. 1 kill.

oops, haha. i'm unfamiliar with warhammer but for targeting purposes, replace the "square" with "inch" or 6 squares becomes 6 inches.

boba fett would be a nice option, but at 5% chance, he might die from the massive spams of force grip/lightsaber throw before the roll of 20 comes up :(

Yuuzhan Vong Jedi Hunters. However many can fit in your squad.

Lightsabre throw works on the Force Immune.

I would say Vong Super Stealth would be a bizwatch for this squad.

ooh yeah! that's right...vader doesn't have master of the force. perhaps nom anor, yomin carr, shaper and whatever amount of vong jedi hunters i can fit would work...hmm, still a toughie on this one.

edit***
here's something else i remembered when i played my friend who used vader and palp. on throne. he had dash rendar renegade smuggler and a blasted diplomat, which annoyed me to no end...

26 Yuuzhan Vong Ossus Guardians x5
25 Leia Skywalker, Jedi Knight
23 General Wedge Antilles
8 R7
5 Caamasi Noble
3 Mouse Droid x3
200 points, 12 activations

Run the Vong up with the Mice staying behind and out of sight. They have Double Evade and Double VCA6 for any Lightsaber Throws. You can use 3 Mice to tempt Vader to waste LT5 on them instead of the Vong. The Vong can always Mobile Razorbug on any Mice that your opponent uses to interfere with you.

Since Throw 5 ignores cover, you can target anyone you have LOS to. Keep that in mind...

Grip can be a pain, as it is not an attack. However, as mentioned, Force Immunity makes quick work of that.
Throw 5 is considered a ranged attack. Keeping that in mind, Evade would be really nice.
The squad listed by jedispyder has both ways of dealing with Vader U's strengths: Immunity and Evade (with rerolls to boot).
You could boost the Ossus' damage with either a Rodian Hunt Master or a Weequay Leader...but that requires trading out an attacker.

how's this squad? my other friend that's hosting this event is being rather more lenient towards how the squads are built. ignoring the timeline scope of the SW continuity but also still having the squads make some sort of sense. and since the ossus guardians are almost the same as the vong jedi hunter, i decided to use them instead since they cost less too. rieekan is there to save points as well and assuming he was still alive after the yuuzhan vong wars.

If he's cool with ignoring the faction rules, then by all means.
Only one suggestion: drop one Mouse for a Imperial Dignitary. Having a Diplomat is killer against Sit'n Palp and might help against Vader too. (plust the Dig can attack Palp!)

PS: if the squad must revolve around a Rebel/NR theme, then use a Camaasi Noble. (same points)

the problem we had with diplomat from before was that we didnt really know the exact rules of it and how to effectively counter a squad with diplomat, so we placed a rule that if the diplomat is adjacent to an enemy, it can be attacked. haha

If you start playing with the correct diplomat rules then:

63 Warmaster Tsavong Lah
19 Yomin Carr
18 Praetorite Vong Priest
24 Advance Scout x4
10 Caamasi Noble x2
16 Yuuzhan Vong Worker x4

(150pts. 13 activations)

If you choose not to play with the correct diplomat rules, then:
remove the 2x Caamasi nobles and replace them with a Yuuzhan Vong Worker and 2x mouse Droids

Now, Paps has few if any targets for his FP and Vader has issues with swarms (great he is going to defeat 2 guys this turn, everyone else will be upon him). The Warmaster is great after he takes 10+ damage.

dont think we'll be using the new sets, altho i'd love to :(

what exactly are the diplomat rules? the glossary terms are kind of confusing. like, when can we actually attack the diplomat? what if the diplomat is in melee? and how exactly do you counter a squad with diplomat if you dont have one yourself?

i'd like to change how we play and use the diplomat, but i'd like to know the exact rule on them as well. a watered down version of the glossary definition would be nice BigGrin explain it to me as if im a 5th grader! haha

A diplomat can only be targetted or attacked if there is no other non-diplomat that can be seen. (Can only be assassinated if there are no witnesses, if you will).

A diplomat shuts down Palpatine on Throne, becuase when you targetted someone, you MUST target an adjacent character first. So, when they are adjacent to Palpatine (or Vader), they have no target, since they have an enemy adjacent, even if they are not able to attack them.

You are really missing out (as a designer of the new V sets).

I suggest you fill in your location field. You never know how many other local (or nearby) players there are to you.
