A question in the squad building forum got me to thinking, and I want to be sure that my understanding of how CEs interact is correct. Here's the relevant portion of the glossary text on CEs:

Quote:
Duplicate commander effects never stack. A single character can benefit from any number of different commander effects simultaneously, but if more than one grants a bonus to the same roll or statistic, only the highest bonus applies. When a commander effect grants a special ability, the ability is treated as though it were printed on the card. Bonuses conferred by that ability do not stack with any other instances of the same ability, but they would stack with any bonuses to the same statistic granted by other commander effects.

The second sentence says that only the highest bonus applies to a stat or roll when multimple CEs are on the same character. However, the last sentence tells us that bonuses conferred by abilities stack with bonuses to the same stat granted by other CEs.

Those two sentences are what have me confused. Do they mean that:

a) GOWK's CE (Each follower gets +4 Attack and +4 Defense as long as it has an ally within 6 squares) and GM Yoda's CE (Followers within 6 squares get +3 Attack and +3 Defense) stack for +7/+7 when both sets of conditions are met.

OR

b) GOWK's CE overlaps GM Yoda's for +4/+4 when both sets of conditions are met

If b is correct, how am I misreading this part of the glossary text of CEs "When a commander effect grants a special ability, the ability is treated as though it were printed on the card. Bonuses conferred by that ability do not stack with any other instances of the same ability, but they would stack with any bonuses to the same statistic granted by other commander effects." ?

Does "special ability" in that sentence refer to things like Opportunist and Cunning attack, but not CE bonuses such as those granted by GOWK, GM Yoda or IC Vader? If that's the case, are they saying that the +4 provided by Gen. Madine's Cunning attack stacks with the +4/+4 provided by GOWK (assuming both sets of conditions are met)?

Thanks in advance for helping clarify this for me!

B is correct. When it refers to Special Abilities, it is refering to things like Cunning, Opportunist, etc. You can be given multiple Special Abilities from CE's, as long as they are different, you can benefit from them. If it is a straight up stat bonus (+x Atk/def), you only get the highest bonus.

Yes.

Yes. +4 & Cunning Attack = +8
