Finding this site was the will of the Force, I have no doubt about that.

Hey everyone,

So this is a question primarily for the 501st Legion Stormtroopers. I played a game recently where I had 4 501st Legion Stormtroopers in close vicinity of each other, much closer than the 6 squares required for Squad assault and firepower to be in effect. But, one was behind a closed door. Does the Squad Assault/Firepower work if one of the 4 is behind a closed door?

My opponent was adamant that it does not. His friend who was watching also was. They argued this effect was similar to targeting. The description of the bonus says nothing of doors however and my feeling was that this was more like a CE. Oh, also, I think CEs extend through doors, walls, etc. Thanks for your help. Below are the descriptions for your convenience:

Squad Assault (+4 Attack while 3 allies with the same name as this character are within 6 squares)
Squad Firepower (+10 Damage while 3 allies with the same name as this character are within 6 squares)

range

Sometimes a Force power or a special ability works only within a listed range. This is the distance in squares between the attacker's and the defender's square, counting the defender’s square. Diagonals count as 2 squares. Low obstacles, difficult terrain, and pits do not affect range, but when counting range, you can’t trace a path through a wall (you count around it instead).

(my underline)

Also, note that closed doors count as walls.

Great! Thanks for the clarification. As a follow up, does this also hold true for CEs, as opposed to Special Abilities and Force Powers? And how would it affect Thrawn? I have lost two games where thrawn could move characters anywhere within a six square radius, not counting distance it would take to move around walls. Would you need to count six squares from Thrawn around walls?

Yes, you have to count around walls and closed doors for CEs that specify a range.

Do note that Relay Orders (Mouse Droid) gives another location to count range from, so if a character is locked away in a room, but there is a mouse droid with him, Thrawn could swap him out of the room, and another guy into the room, as an example.

Also note that if you have a Commander with a Range Six CE shut in a closed room and no Mouse Droids outside the room the CE is not in effect even with Mas Amedda.

Whenever you count range, whether CE, Force Power, or Special Ability, you count around walls (and consequently closed doors as well.)
