As we are plotting out Gencon for this year, one of the areas we need to address in different ways this year is prize support, and thus we are trying to be creative with the offerings, as simple booster product becomes harder to come by. You may or may not be aware, that we are running a brand new tournament format (2 times) at Gencon this year. It's similar to Dynamic Duo, expect it's 200pts, and you don't have to equal 200. We have been stating out 12 "Epic" character cards, which we intend to distribute in a couple of ways. These are larger than normal size cards (think ATAT card size), and will have special foil/cut out areas on them - they look totally cool so far from what Les has posted. Anyways, these are 12 Star Wars characters at their best. Luke Skywalker Grandmaster is similar to this project, but also less. If you try to imagine what a person would be like at their very best, with a point cost of 100-170, I think you will get the idea of what these beasts are. Everyone who plays in the tournament will get a full set, and they won't know which epic duo they are playing until they get to Gencon. Now, what I am asking of you, is if you would be willing to make 12 custom figures, representing each of these 12 characters that we can give away as prizes for the top 6 of each of the two tournaments. We would be happy to compensate you, and any figures you need, or choose to buy to make them, we would cover your cost obviously. Plus you'd get the chance to have a display of your own custom(s), on display at Gencon, in all their glory. Since these are Epic Characters, the customs should represent that. In this case, do not think Luke Skywalker Grandmaster :). Instead think of Jango Fett BH. Anyways, let me know what you think, and any questions you might have. If you are willing to take part, please post in this thread. You are welcome to take on as many of the 12 as you want to, and you obviously don't have to choose now since you don't know the setlist. As of right now, I am looking for volunteers to make at least 1 of the 12 characters, and I will coordinate the list and grant access to the Gamers thread for each of you that houses your selected figure (how's that you get way early previews as well if you volunteer). Preference will be given to those that I know their work from online photos and to recognized names. That does not mean you can't upload a couple of photos of customs to this thread if you aren't known, or that I will ignore you because I don't know you. I want these to be some of the best customs we've ever seen, but that doesn't take an expert either, just people with care. Remember, these are to be unique prizes for our brand new format!
Thanks, Bill

I am interested. I doubt my stuff would be of EPIC quality of EPIC EPICNESS as per Lily Wan, Azrakel, and Leftieswillrule to shamelessly name drop and suck up. If you have something like Wicket Unleashed, Greedo, Misunderstood Scoundrel, or Darth Revan, Lord of All Things Awesome, I could do something.
And before you think I am trying to facetious, I am actually interested. I am hoping my move won't disrupt things. If one is a Yoda, I just completed something that might work well.

Considering the popularity of the Jango BH model, I was looking into something that might be on par with his unique look (flying with translucent parts). I've never used this product but it might do, if anyone is interested. Castin' Craft Easycast Clear Casting Epoxy Looks like you need to make a mold first, but that's not difficult.

You are both signed up, that makes 5 so far, 7 to go.
Also, to be totally clear, I will either pay for the minis you need for the custom, or mail you a free Epic set of cards for the work. You will need to cover mailing me the figure. I will not do both as I can't afford it lol. But either one of those you can choose.

I would be very interested in how that turns out. It's hard making lightning with only plastic bottles and scissors. :)

To clarify. We make one of the EPic customs each. Post it out to you. And in return get a set of the Epic custom cards? If its just to make a single custom, I'm in for that. I'm already making a bunch for dreadtech so i couldnt commit to make a full set.

My alternate option is to pay for the mini you use for the custom. I think in some cases, that will be the better deal for some people, and for others this way is better, so I've offered both options.

Would these characters be tournament legal, or only playable in that format in GenCon?

From my understanding, the Epic minis are going to be similar to GMLuke. High cost but still somewhat usable in 150-200 points with a real shine for Mass Battles.

A good idea and a very reasonable offer, However wouldn't we need to know upfront who is in the set? and which characters are already taken up by other custom makers? How many of the 12 are still in need of making?
Dread.
