Went to the Phoenix Comicon this weekend and had a great time. In addition to meeting Leonard Nimoy and George Tekei (and getting there autographs), I also had the pleasure of meeting Billy Dee Williams and getting his autograph. The line was slow when I went to see him and I had a chance to talk to him. I asked him if he ever heard of Star Wars minis, or if he had ever seen any of his Star Wars minis figures. He said “no” to both. So, I showed him the original Lando Calrissian figure (still my favorite pose of him). He got a kick out of it so I asked him if he would like it; and he said he would very much appreciate it. So, I gave it to him.

So, here is a picture of Billy Dee Williams holding the first Lando Calrissian mini.

If anyone has and extra of this figure to trade please let me know as I now find myself in need of one (well worth it to have had such a fun conversation with the old pirate).

For all those comic book fans out there I also met Stan Lee while I was waiting for the elevator (and saw him speak at a panel)... though I didn't get an autograph. I also met Todd McFarlane (had him sign a Phoenix Comicon special edition of Haunt) as well as Greg Capullo (who also signed the special edition of Haunt and signed and gave me his last numbered special edition of a Batman print he did for the Phoenix Comicon to promote his upcoming comic... it was #200 of 200. A very lucky break, and I'm not sure how I ended up with it given all the folks waiting in line to meet him).

Lots of other great stuff there, too. If you are ever in the Phoenix area over Memorial Day weekend, it's definitely worth checking out the Comicon.

Haha yes! That's awesome, thanks for sharing. Matthew Wood didn't know what miniatures were either but in the edmonton comic show in 2008 I got him to sign the Droid Army Commander card.

Very Cool. I did the same when I volunteered at Celebration IV in LA a few years ago. I Worked with Orli Shoshan who played Shaak ti and I gave her the mini of herself and she thought it was very cool.

I love it when the actors really get into it at conventions and such. Jeremy Bulloch and Daniel Logan really got into it at the London Film and Comic Con last summer. On the flip side it sucks when you out geek them, or they don't even play up their role a little bit. I got my Heroes Vol 1 signed by a guy who did some of the art work in it and he was like "oh, I forgot I did that". It was a little deflating.

Carrie Fisher's response at seeing my "Princess Leia Hoth Commander" card was,"Haven't seen that one before!" :D

No, I think the miniatures crowd is a whole subgroup within the SW collector's group, so many of the actors don't get exposed to their miniature versions nearly as much as they do to the 3.75" lines.

Your uber lucky man. I really regret not going to the orlando (I live an hour away) comic con and not meeting stan lee. Im 16 and have almost 2000 marvel comics =(. But probably one of the coolest things ever was at celebration IV (5?) when my brother and I were in the back with all like 50 stars and we were so nervous about meeting them all. So when we were walking over by the clone wars section (TV show) Dee Bradly Baker (Rex) called us over in his captian rex voice and called use clones XD XD XD. It was so awesome!

Me on the left and my bro on the right

Same thing as when I met Matt Lanter (voiced anakin from the clone wars) I walked over there, he was texting, stood up, smiled for a pic, went back to texting. Dont him recall saying a word.Crying

This is a timely topic. This weekend, I just went to Comicpalooza in Houston, and met a few folks, as well. For the record, I give Tom Kane (voice of Yoda and Yularen on "Star Wars: The Clone Wars") all the props in the world. Much to my daughter's delight (who's 6 and loves "The Clone Wars"), he spouted off quote after quote using his Yoda and Yularen voices. And since there wasn't a line by his booth, we chatted with Tom for about 10-15 minutes.

And for the record, Edward James Olmos is also a great guy. He really got into the con experience--taking crazy photos at one booth, while playing laser tag with the con participants at another (and who wouldn't love to be led in simulated combat by Admiral William Adama). My wife, daughter, and I got a professional picture taken with him, and he was nothing but charming and kind--especially with my daughter.

I got you covered on this. BM me your address and I'll send you my extra if you are still in need.

Great story - often the actors seem to be a bit intimidating to many people, but most are just happy to talk and pass the time. Thanks for sharing - sounds like you had a great time. It what SW is all about.
