The 3rd cinematic trailer is out for the upcoming Old Republic MMO, and it looks - yet again - awesome. (I'd much rather see a CGI SW movie from Bioware than anything offered in the current cartoon series.) Here's a few more cool characters that would have made awesome WotC miniatures. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIqSr-v2Iaw

Yeah, this one is as cool as, if not cooler than, DECEIVED. From pretty early on, I said that one of my biggest regrets about WotC ending the line was that we would be deprived of a Star Wars - The Old Republic set (or two!).
Where I disagree with you is the Clone Wars animated series. Personally, I would have been excited to get Clone Wars - Rise of the Bounty Hunters and Clone Wars - Secrets Revealed. A Season 2-centric set would have had some really interesting ramifications for the Mandalorians (Satine, Pre Viszla), and, c'mon, evne if you HATE the series, don't you want an Embo mini? A set centered around Season 3 would likely have brought us Savage Opress and the family from Mortis--and I would love to see the sculpts on those. (I'm betting the player in my Star Wars RPG campaign who has a Zabrak wielding a double-ended vibroblade would have been happy to use Savage rather than Bao-Dur).
But I digress. And I agree. The lack of amazing Old Republic-era minis is probably my greatest disappointment, too.

Well, I have to admit. I have a soft spot for Gunslingers of any universe or time frame. So, I approve of this trailer.

Jedi Spirit "No there is another."
Hopefully some of these will find there way into the vsets

WOW! That was an epic trailer!! When I first saw that cowboy, i thought it was Cad Bane's great-grandfather :D Does the gunslinger have a name? And who was Satele's master who got killed? What were the names of the two Sith Lords? I 'd the classical Sith betrayal at the end. It was to be expected.

The cowboy looked a bit too John Marsden from Red Dead Redemption. But alot of those people looked like other characters. 'Tis the norm in Star Wars.

It felt like Cad Bane meets Han Solo. I am more excited about those Sith Assault Droids and troopers than anything. It is almost tempting me to get this game, even though I swore I wouldn't.

Hopefully some of these will find there way into the vsets Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the V-Sets from a stat point of view, but unless they're going to start mass-producing physical minis, it ain't a full replacement for WotC. I want PHYSICAL minis that I can hold in my hand. I want a Sith Empire Operative that LOOKS like an Imperial Operative, not just "please use mini X."

Until then, you're free to think anything about what I say...:)

Couple things I disagreed with about that trailer 1. That Space Cow Boy looked to much like Indie.... Never seen one of 'em in star wars 2. The try to make the ships look to modern for being 1000-3000 years before a new hope. I get in the republic time their flagships are extremely similar to the empire but thats because essentially there the same design. But how did they keep the same thing for that long? The only difference in this one was the star destroyer had a slot missing down the middle. 3. Cow Boys Ship looks a bit to much like the Falcon, I know its a stretch. 4. They made a another trailer.... time could have be spent on the game that should have come out in spring. 5. At 3:49 Cow Boy sounds EXACTLY like marcus Phoenix from Gears Of war
On the up side 1. Its star wars and I love it. Need There be a second point?

On the up side 1. Its star wars and I love it. Need There be a second point? 1) How about Cad Bane? 2) Clearly, technology does not advance at a particularly fast rate in the Galaxy Far, Far Away. If they're using the same technology (eg, blasters and hyperdrives), there's no reason they wouldn't look pretty much the same! Form follows function. If you can accept that ships have WORKED the same way for thousands of years (and that is what the EU requires us to accept), then it is a logical jump to go to them LOOKING the same way, no? 3. To some extent, that's marketing, and is intentional, and is--let's be honest--exactly what the majority of the audience WANTS (to a large extent, the same thing applies to #2). The game designers have stated that one of the major goals is the make the experience feel like the movies. That means the archetypes, whether they are visual, philosophical, or what, have to mirror the movies in some way. Of COURSE a smuggler's ship is going to evoke the iconic smuggler's ship from the movies! That's the symbolism and visual language of Star Wars! 4) BioWare didn't make the trailer. Another company did. So the only BioWare time that was wasted on this trailer was some guy signing a check. Seriously, though, do you really want the game to come out before it's ready? Did you play KotOR II? What could have been an amazing game was turned into an unstable mess because of a forced timeline. 5) I'll have to take your word on that.

I'm almost certain the voice of the "Space Cowboy" is John DiMaggio, the voice of Bender from Futurama amongst many other characters he's lent his voice to.

But they'll probably start with the movie characters. And I don't want to paint.

The trailer is pretty awesome, I love the gunslinger. He's got swagger about him. Does he equal Cad Bane's awesomeness? In a word "No". That being said though. I can't wait for the game. As far as the topic goes, who cares that Wizards dropped Star Wars. Our favorite game is in capable hands. The game has only got better since Gamers took over.
