Sorry if this has been asked before. I was playing around with the idea of doing a large scale battle and was using the Bloomilk squad builder and put in Ulic Qel-Droma then low and behold Jaina, Sword of the Jedi pops into the list of figs that can be played. I am not sure if this is right?

Ulic's card reads: Your squad may include Mandalorian characters

Jaina's card reads: This character may be in a Mandalorian squad

Now isn't the squad Sith? So not quite sure how Jaina gets in there?

That is an error! I think the way it works is, Jaina is a New Republic figure. She has the ability to be in a Mando squad because of her Affinity. If she is in a Mando squad, she is then considered to be Mando once the skirmish begins. Ulic's CE looks at the faction without taking Affinity into account. Therefore, she cannot be in a Sith squad.

I'm sure there is someone else who can explain this better than I just did, but that is how I believe it works.

She can't get in a sith squad. Just because she is allowed in a mandalorian squad doesn't mean she is a mandalorian character.

No, she cannot. It is an error for the Squad Builder. The squad that contains the Mandos would count as Sith and would need to count as Mandos in order for Jaina to be in it.

What would happen if you threw Mandalore the Ultimate into the mix (assume the point cost permits all the characters to be in the squad)? Would it change anything?

Then you have a Sith squad where all the characters count as Mandalorians. Huh

I don't think you can put Jaina in there. (I could be wrong though - cue Jeopardy music)

I think the problem most people are having with this question is knowing which SAs go into affect during squad building and which ones go into affect once the skirmish begins.

Mandalorian Conscription does not affect squad building. It basically says that all characters in your squad, including fringe characters, are considered Mandalorian for purposes of CEs and SAs that affect only Mandalorian characters. For example, Boba BH could get twin from the Mando Capt. which he would not be able to do without Mandalorian Conscription.

Affinity affects squad building. It allows specific characters to be in a squad they otherwise would not be allowed to be in. Jaina Solo, Sword of the Jedi is a New Republic figure who is allowed to be in a Mandalorian squad. Ulic's CE also affects squad building. It lets Mandalorian characters be in a Sith squad. For purposes of squad building, Jaina Solo, Sword of the Jedi is a New Republic character, not a Mandalorian. She cannot be in a Sith squad for this reason.

Hope this clears things up.
