A good buddy of mine collected these Miniatures for a while and I always thought they were pretty awesome so I bought some super cheap at Target one day. My friend and I just played our first game and now I'm hooked! I want more!
It sucks so bad that they don't make them anymore!
Also just got into Heroclix. Star Wars Heroclix would be awesome.

Welcome to the game! I just joined the game a year and a half ago myself, so I know what you mean about not making them anymore. However, the guys over at SWMGamers.com are creating Virtual Sets, which are basically them creating new stat cards for characters that were never made by WotC, or improving characters that WotC didn't do justice. Their first set, Destiny of the Force, was released late last year, and you can get a PDF of the cards here: http://www.swmgamers.com/page.php?43They're releasing the second set, Renegades and Rogues, at Gencon this August, and at that time, they'll be releasing around 700 copies of the full 60-piece set, so there will be a whole new set of stats to play with! My advice would be to pick up some more boosters from Target (who doesn't love $4 boosters?! lol), and start building some squads and keep playing some fun games with your friends! And be on the lookout for sets of Renegades and Rogues coming out soon, and download/print out a set of Destiny of the Force cards to play with!

I also joined the game fairly late also, but don't regret it one bit. I love this and it is my best hobby.

On the one hand, the active playing scene is a lot smaller. On the other hand, the prices of the minis is waay lower now than it was 2 or 3 years ago. I suspect the prices won't actually drop all that much more and may even go back up as everyone who wants to dump their collections does so and there isn't as much on the secondary market anymore.

jak wrote: FUN!......you will have Yes....much FUN have you. Welcome to the boards RogueLieutenant. While WotC may not be making them anymore they are going strong with the V-Sets. Also, this is one of the best site's on the internet to be a part of. My advice would be to snatch up as many boosters at Target as you can and get into the trading aspect of the game. It'll help you to get those mini's you don't have. Good luck man, and most of all have fun!!!

Howdy and welcome! Another quick/cheap way to pick up minis is people who are selling off their collections. (like me! well...about 75% of mine anyway...not all) Take a look through the Trades Forum and you should find some great deals. (sent you a PM)

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I fell into this game very late in the day too - but I've got a 94-ish percent complete collection. (Of course it helps that I have more money than sense. (: ) Just hit the ebay and craigslist from time to time, and pick up whatever you can from Target! That should give you a pretty solid base to work from.

I've been collecting and playing for nearly 2 years now. This game is as addictive as it was when I first started. My collection is sitting around 79% complete, and it's slowly getting harder to find specific pieces at reasonable prices. I quite like using http://www.strikezone.com but a lot of the pieces I'm looking for never seem to be in stock. Gotta be patient I guess. Anyway, love the game, love the site!!!

Other good places to buy minis online are Auggie's, Miniature Market, Cool Stuff Inc, and Troll and Toad.
Personally I like Auggie's the best as the prices are quite reasonable and they ship fast. Stock right now isn't the best, but according to the newsposts, they just got 50 cases apiece of DT and MotF in. The DT stuff is already up and MotF will be added shortly. I also know of someone who's planning on selling his entire collection to them as well (around 4,000 minis, primarily TFU and newer), so they're worth keeping an eye on.
