The game has changed quite a bit over the years, but sometimes the oldies are still goodies.
Cast your mind back to a time when the boxes were still rectangular, and the cards weren't as flashy. What are some of the pieces that are still strong from the "vintage" sets (KotOR and before)?
Which ones can still stand on their own? Which ones are great, but only with newer commanders and other options?

While I only joined the game around the Jedi Academy era, one of the older minis that I always use is Lobot. the ability to customise your squad slightly AND have override for 27 points make him well worth having.
Also, in a fair few of my squads, if I have a few points left I find having a Bespin Guard is pretty nice. Just keep him towards the back to combine fire with.

Gen. Veers from Rebel Storm (set #1) is a figure I use ALOT. Giving accurate shot to non-unique followers is amazing!

From the first four sets, highly ranked pieces that I've seen used competitively or in popular squads: Rebel Storm - Grand Moff Tarkin (with Pallaeon), General Veers with Echani Handmaidens Clone Strike - Darth Sidious, Battle Droid Officer Revenge of the Sith - R2-D2 Astromech Droid, San Hill. Mon Mothma has her uses too Universe - Darth Vader Jedi Hunter, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Nom Anor, Lobot

Aurra Sing has kind of fallen by the wayside, but she has solid stats, though needs help to get extra attacks. Works in a number of factions and can still be fun, especially when your opponent forgets about LS Sweep. Han Scoundrel, pricey but still a good shooter, even better with a force spirit on him. I wonder if Han might show up at Gencon in a non-Rieekan squad.

With Whorm, Aurra Sing has made a come back. I use CS Sidious often. The original Lobot sees a lot of play. Once in a while the x-1 makes a showing. Of course R2-D2 sees time. Then of course their is Mad Amedda. Once in a while I throw Sly MOORE in. Ahhhh the good ole days!!!!!

I still like GA thrawn, good if you don't have enough room for IE thrawn and Palleon and are willing to sacrifice opportunist and the replace commander.

Rebel Storm spoiled us with all its sculpts, It's a wonder we kept buying the stuff after Clone Strikes inferior sculpts. hehe but now back on topic.. I'm gonna go with stuff I personally enjoy vs. being totally competative. I still think the original Boba Fett is a very nice piece, The stats and abilities he has are all solid, the point cost is just slightly out of order with what similar figures provide, but in the long run, I think he would get the job done fine. Zam Wessel can still be of interesting use, especially in a dynamic duo, where she is basically a filthy cheater haha. I would say IG-88, Bounty Hunter, but it's harder to justify him with the Dark Times version. But he held in there for a real long time to me. I still like 4-LOM, Bounty Hunter better than the Dark Times version though. Paralysis functions better to me despite the slight difference in base stats. Shaak Ti, Jedi Master is another one I'd certainly still use, always been a favorite of mine to play.

RS Obi-wan Kenobi. He is supposed to die anyway, but I find he can usually bring down about his points worth before he does.
