Anyone heard any news on the license for SWM and the RPG?
Any and all news is useful, as are rumors
If you could link to any sources that'd be better

I heard a rumor that all the R&R, BOT and Epic cards are in boxes at Engineer's house.
Oh wait, that is true. There are 14 boxes sitting in my foyer. If you want your set early, just stop by Thursday before 11 am. :)

From what I remember, someone stated at the end of last GenCon they were told who got the license and what type of minis they were making and it'd be awesome yet there was never an announcement anywhere else. I'm sure people are hoping for that this year at GenCon, but at this point I don't think the game is going to be produced again (it may be picked up to c-block another company from making it, but that's it).

I doubt it would be picked up just so it couldn't be made. It's way too expensive to just hold such a license without benefiting from it as well. We just have to hope that whatever is made, is actually quality and/or worthwhile in the long run.

Someone inquired about the license and was told by LFL it was already sold. As far as I know, that information is still correct. Games take years to develop and prepare, so it doesn't surprise me that we haven't heard anything yet. But honestly, I'm not real concerned about it. I'm not buying another game (although if the scale is right, I'll buy some for customs) and I love what we are doing with the V-sets.

Boy talk about an uphill battle tho - any company picking up the minis license will have to start from scratch (mechanics-wise), meaning that all the existing stuff will be incompatible. Oh sure you could use the sculpts as placeholders or something, but to use the Mas with Booming Voice with the new game - well that's not going to happen.
Will people want to dump their thousands of dollars in minis for the new thing?

Will people want to dump their thousands of dollars in minis for the new thing? I think that most SWM players that are still around would NOT dump their collections to take up a new SW game. Bit by bit, some will move on for any number of reasons, as we've seen over the last year or two. There would probably be some players that would try the new game. If new minis were of a compatible scale, a good number of us would buy some. I just hope that the numbers of new players of this game that come along, as well as older players coming back to see what is up with the v-sets are equal or greater than the number that leave.

All I know is never say never. Even if a game was developed in another scale as well as having new mechanics.. well.. it's certainly worth looking into. I've dropped a lot of cash into WOTC game, and I'd be just as interested in another.
I get the feeling people don't want their previous effort to be obsolete. It is afterall collectible and always worth something, but the experience of a new game might be worth just as much, just as enjoyable. I hope they make an announce at Gencon, it would be a perfect place for it. I'm very curious to see what we might get.
And hey, if it's junk.. oh well lol

And hey, if it's junk.. oh well lol That's pretty much exactly how I see it, too. If it's a fun game, yeah, I'll probably play it (as long as at least a few other people I know will play it with me). That doesn't mean that I'll stop playing the current version of SWM, though. I can handle playing 2 games, plenty of SWM players are also Magic players or HeroClix players or Malifaux players or Warmachine players or whatever. I've got no problem with picking up a new game if it's fun and I have people to play with, and if it's a Star Wars game I'm even more likely to pick it up, because I love Star Wars.

Too be honest, I'm a bit more interested in using the potential new models for this game.
