The Wookiee Jedi is subject to his own Splash damage, yes?

I always played with a house rule where splash damage doesnt effect the user, but still his allies, because I assume that cade skywalker is smart enough not to shoot him self, or Vaders apprentice knows when he shoots lightning its bad to electrocute him self.

That is what I thought. He is a lot Of points for a character that will essentially kill himself.

Or smart enough to use his lightsaber. Good house rule. Jak and I thought about giving this character Splash after/if he gains savage.

If you think its worth using lightning to hit several enemies and still damage the user, then so will VAU. Otherwise, he'd just use his lightsaber. Splash/lightning isn't hitting everything adjacent to the user, its just so powerful that energy splashes onto the adjacent areas, hence the name. Its got nothing to do with smarts, just the laws of physics. If you're holding a grenade launcher, and there's an enemy in your face, you're going to back up before firing it. You aren't immune to the grenade's effect just because you're the one who triggered it. House-rule whatever you want, but if you ask me, SWM has enough rules that don't make sense as it is. 35 points isn't too much to spend on a character with the offensive potential that the Wookiee Jedi has. The Splash damage is part of his built-in design limitations, like his low defense.

Agreed with the physics me. Reminds me of Ep VI where Vader lifts Palpy up and Palpy ends up zapping them both. However, I dont think the Wookiee Jedi is the best option out there for 35 pts. He has some good offensive potential; but in that potential he has many ways to hurt himself (Splash + Indisciminate Rage). Every time he attacks he migh be giving himself up to 20 damage (Twin). I think a simple way to help balance out Splash is to give him MR2. And with his low def he will go down like a ton of bricks. Everyone knows how fast Sidious SM/DLOTS goes down with no defensive powers; and thats with a much higher def than the Wookiee Jedi. Plus he doesnt have a chance to injure himself every single time he attacks. For a mere 3 more points (in the NR) you can get Kol or for 2 points less (in the OR) you can get Bastila JM. Or for 1 point less in Rep you can get Ki-Adi JM. Theres so many options out there for melee beats; I dont think the WJ quite matches up to many of them. The only thing going for him is his Twin + Cleave combo; and the fact that he is a non-unique follower making him subject to much more CEs than unique jedi.

Cade was extremely reckless and wookiees tend to become enraged. I think splash is a great way to emulate the character attacking at the risk of getting hurt in the process. I don't picture the character shooting himself in the foot, more like... ignoring their defenses in an attempt to relentlessly attack their enemy.

curious but what is the reasoning for giving him splash damage anyway? Is he swinging so wildly with a lightsaber he singes his hair and toes off? lol I know some of the Flavor Text is a joke, but this one says they are exceptional Jedi. What kind of exceptional Jedi does damage to himself?

yet, we've been told that a Jedi can control their feelings. a wookiee with melee and splash I understand.a Jedi with melee and splash not so much.remember, there are only 3 named and 1 unnamed wookiee Jedis in the Star Wars universe. Lucas won't allow anymore in the EU. Based on that a wookiee Jedi should be unique.

Indiscriminate Rage seems to be a hint that it is a bit of a loose cannon.

I actually really like the wookie jedi. I have seen him kill atton rand, a mouse droid, and revan in one activation, that is pretty amazing.

It seems fun having a high damage, low defense character. He fills a unique little niche. He'd be kind of cool with CS Yoda with all the saves he has to roll.

I like to just keep with the high damage and use general skywalker with him, i don't even worry about the splash rolls because with his terrible defense chances are he is going to be killed right after activating anyways lol. Have to try them out with mon mothma to get those extra attacks when they die lol.

Yep, loose canon. I had a problem with that as well - a wookiee jedi should be unique. But according to Wookieepedia, a Force sensitive Wookiee comes around every hundred years or so, and they live for several hundred years, so having 4 or 5 together is feasible... we just aren't allowed to know their names. Could be quite a canon problem in mass battles, though. *shrug* Just a game.

The Rage ability makes sense to me though. I believe we've all been over the abstractions of ability names vs what they represent. And a wookiee is a strong and powerful, one tough customer. I think the splash is certainly good flavor, but it still seems real odd for a Jedi to be so careless as to damage themselves somehow. Unless you're Zayne... lol whatever though. Good piece is good. jak wrote:swinefeld wrote:Indiscriminate Rage seems to be a hint that it is a bit of a loose cannon. or loose canon hahaha FlyingArrow wrote:jak wrote: remember, there are only 3 named and 1 unnamed wookiee Jedis in the Star Wars universe. It would have been cool to get a Lowbacca or Plo Koons old master (I have no idea how to spell the name lol) But I'm pretty happy with the Generic Wookiee Jedi. the faction affinity is nice about it too, it helps it to be expansive between the eras

It is a neat character, I am just unsure that he will make up for his points while he is damaging himself. Being a Wookiee, Splash makes sense.
