Sets: Chalmun's Cantina CrowdThe Cantina Band

Special Abilities

  • Unique
  • Background Noise (Enemy characters cannot use or benefit from Relay Orders)
  • Booming Voice (Allies' commander effects normally limited to 6 squares have unlimited range)
  • Break up the Act (Replaces turn; this character is removed from play and replaced with up to eight Unique characters with the Modal Nodes special ability under your control. Each character sets up in one of the 9 squares this character formerly occupied. When these characters enter the battlefield, they can immediately move up to 6 squares.)
  • Disruptive (Suppresses enemy commander effects within 6 squares)
  • Emplacement (Cannot move or be moved. Set up anywhere on your half of the battle map.)
  • Rapport (Costs 3 less in a squad with a character whose name contains Chalmun)

Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes were an all-Bith music band, specializing in the fields of Jizz and Jatz. The bandleader and organizer was an overbearing, compulsive Bith named "Fiery" Figrin D'an.

Really awesome idea. I wish it was a little more worth 43 points, though.

You get a solid 64 points worth of characters out of it though, with a total of 8 activations, plus first round gambit and having all 8 Modal Nodes up front at the start. Not too shabby, although I doubt I'd keep it in Band form ever though since Booming Voice and Disruptive aren't worth losing the attacking power.

Amadeus is correct; it's cheaper than building the squad individually (and I couldn't think of any other special abilities the band as a group would have). Plus, with "Fiery" Figrin D'an, every Modal Nodes unit shares the special abilities of other band members adjacent to it, and every single member has a different special ability to share with the others.

Okay, that makes more sense. I didn't realize it was less expensive than the group as a whole. That's pretty creative.

Well with the rapport that the lesser members of the band have for Figrin D'an himself, the total squad comes to 57 points. You can find all of the band members in the same set that this custom is apart of.

I elected to increase the cost a bit. This band piece is now 10 points cheaper than all of the band members together instead of 14, and that doesn't factor in the added rapport from Chalmun.

A new special ability, very game-changing: enemies cannot use Relay Orders, effectively stopping any and all mouse droids from fulfilling their intended purpose. I wanted to add this as more incentive to keep the band together rather than separate them with Break up the Act, and to help with the cost. Thoughts?

The way you have break up the act worded means that if you choose to break up the act, then your opponent gets 47 points. Maybe change it to "Remove this character from the map" instead of "this character is defeated". I like Background noise though.

Ah. You are correct. I will change it.

I think Background Noise is precisely what this piece needed. Great idea.

Thanks. I was looking for ideas that hadn't been done yet and would fit with the theme of the character, and in studying a lot of people's squads I saw that a common theme was Relay Orders, so I thought about introducing a method to suppress it (while also introducing incentive to keep the band alive and together before separating them)
