Supreme Overlord Shimrra recruited brilliant shapers and secretly placed them in a development program to create new Shaping techniques and fill the Eighth cortex with new knowledge, as it was nearly empty; something that the vast majority of the Yuuzhan Vong were unaware of.
--Meezhan's 8th Cortex-- 30 Supreme Overlord Quorreal 28 Tsavong Lah, Warrior Elite 27 Minos, Yuuzhan Vong Warrior 23 Tahiri Veila 22 Khalee Lah, Warrior Progeny 19 Eighth Cortex Shaper *17 (-5 rapport) Mezhan Kwaad 18 Yuuzhan Vong Consul 15 Yammosk War Coordinator
(199pts. 9 activations)
Tahiri is a pretty good Vong.
Bring Eminance Harrar if you face beefy force users, or an executor. Bring whatever tech you need with Quorreal.

shmi15 wrote:Or maybe we should just release more Vong, and give them more and more options? Jesus Christ and Mary. I wish someone could just take the time and explain the logic of all this to me. I would appreciate that almost as much as spending time desigining within the Sith Faction. I agree the Sith need help. Yes, they have received some nice pieces, but they still need more. Which is why the Sith in Set 14 are doing more to help Sith competitively than the 8th Cortex does for Vong. They actually let you build something better than was previously possible. The 8th cortex is just making Unique Vong an option, but not necessarily "more powerful" than the other Vong builds. While the Sith center around their Uniques, the few Vong Uniques are outclassed by powerful NU characters. For the longest time building with Unique Vong didn't even hold a candle to spamming Warriors and Scouts. We've seen a lot of OP & NPEs squads come from spamming NUs. It lead to the Vong being errata by the BC and being largely ignored by designers. However, some players still want to run the purple and they are due for some love and attention. The Sith got 13 new characters in the previous three V-sets, mostly aimed at competitive play. The Vong got 5 characters . . . all themed pieces or having synergies for Uniques. Sith in V-Sets 11, 12, 13, 14 Unique: 3, 2, 1, 1 = 7 Non U : 3, 3, 1, 1 = 8 Vong in V-Sets 11, 12, 13, 14 Unique: 0, 0, 0, 1 = 1 Non U : 2, 2, 1, 3 = 8 The 8th Cortex will lets you play new Vong characters from recent sets with many previously unused Vong Uniques. Hopefully, it's something fresh and enjoyable that entertains those wanting to run Vong for a good long while.

would you consider this new vong piece a power 11 piece?

I think people are getting a little over concerned with everything. Can I suggest we stop any further spoilers. It it ssupposed to be a method to excite the community but this time it's caused divides and complaints.

TimmerB123 wrote:FYI - Sith have made the GenCon top eight almost every year since set 2 was released. Jaq'ed Up, Krayt/Revan, Dance of Death, etc. (I don't even think Malgus ever made top 8, but he was frequently right there.)
Vong only finally made it in, and the breaking point was the Yun Ne'shell Priest. The Lah Warriors were out the GenCon before, and the Subcommander (blast bugs) the year before that. It took the combo of all 3 broken pieces to finally get them in.
There has never been a truly competitive Song squad featuring uniques and attacking as primary damage dealing.
Sith - that has almost always been the case.
Sith have one of the best shooters in the game (Jaq), one of the bestsellers swappers (Revan), one of the best movement manipulators (Caedus) - and still some great cheap tech that Long don't have access to.
Vong have so many disadvantages, ESPECIALLY in terms of Uniques.
Having a Vong squad where the focus is on Uniques and Attacks is something we really haven't seen in the competitive realm.
Ever.
So this is new. This cannot realistically be stacked with blast bugs. This cannot realistically be combined with Lah warriors. This cannot be realistically stacked with the Yun Ne'shell priest (at least not the avoid defeat aspect).
This is a whole new way to build with Vong. It's back to basics.
It FEELS very Vong when playing it. You rush in and attacks start flying everywhere.
I play tested this piece, and honestly - I lost to a sith squad (Darth Baras coincidentally), but it was very close, and it was VERY FUN! We had an absolute blast playing it.
And it is not my playstyle, not my faction, not my cup of tea. But I had to admit it was fun.
Try it out before you condemn it.
It's not broken. It's not the crazy NPE that blast bugs, Lah Warriors, and avoid defeat Yun Neshell silliness are.
It's lots of attacks, lots of damage, lots of killing, and no cat-and-mouse/hide-and-seek crap.
It's exactly what most people have been begging for.
Yes, I have seen Sith make the Top 8 in GenCon. But most of the time, I see them with an auto loss. Because of all the Ysalmari in almost every faction. Their Booming Voice piece is terrible... And I fought tooth and nail to have Booming Voice removed from him. Because now were stuck with the " well for 20 you can do this " argument. And I may have just missed it... But I don't think I've heard anyone on here campaign for the Vong? I've seen people Defend the Vong. But, and again I could have missed it, but never "Lets give them more options, and more stuff." I openly admit I know nothing about the faction, or the Vong race in general. So this could be just the most flavorful faction we have, and I would be none the wiser. But I am hard pressed to believe the Vong are. Jacen Solo has Vong Sense, Do you not think if Darth Bane would have been around during that time that he would have Vong Sense as well? What about Yoda? What about Obi? What about Anakin? What about Palpatine? What about any of the Ancient Sith Lords, or powerful Jedi Masters? Do you see where I am going with this? I don't understand how just because a faction existed at a very small point in the Star Wars timeline, that all other Force Users who were not alive during that time all of a sudden have no answer to them. It irks me that their main gimmick is solely based on when they are introduced in the Star Wars Lore. And I have stated I am willing to look at Darth Baras and try and figure something out with him, as I am sure he is good, I just feel for 40 points, and what he hands out, its not that great compared to other factions. Plageuis is very good.... But he is a 60 point piece who can do 80 damage... IF he starts adjacent to you. Absorb Energy seems good, but, again, every faction who shoots has Ysalmari. His CE is fun, it can be Disrupted, which is prominent in all Factions without Ysalmari. It just seems every faction has an answer to shut his tricks down. Dun Moch Style is the absolute best thing in the world for him. Negating Djem So and Makashi/Parry, thats an amazing ability. But.... once he gets based by a Force User, he has nothing. He will die fast. And then, you've spent 60 points on nothing. I get he can withstand some shots from people. And it does slow down the Blast Bug craze, and the Lah Chargers. But his damage is not good. You have to spend another 13 points to give him +10 damage. The Sith need a way to maximize their damage output, while still moving like all the other factions can.

I hope were not all snowflakes, and can hold a discussion while someone else disagrees with an opinion of another. Lets not run to our safe places and receive counseling just because there is a disagreement. If its better, we can continue the discussion of the Sith and Vong on a separate page, but dropping the conversation all together is the most ignorant thing that can happen. AND, the last time I was overly concerned about something, it received multiple, multiple counters to it that set minis back for a few sets . *cough* Mace Windu* Cough* So I think voicing concerns is the absolute best thing to do. But if you go back and read, I have stated multiple times I am biased against the Vong. So my opinion is EXTREMELY lopsided against them. I've called for a faction ban, but I don't think it will ever happen, its more of a way to voice my displeasure with the faction in general. I haven't said any of these pieces are going to break Minis tho. I'm just venting that the Vong have 3/4 squad types. 2-3 of which are NPE's, while the Sith you have.... 2 squad types? And you have to get lucky and not face a team set up to beat Force Users? Which almost every faction has? I'll stop the discussion if people are getting their feelings hurt over this. But if thats the case, what can actually be said about a SWM that won't offend someone?

From what I've seen the Vong faction as a whole seems more prone to terrible design choices. There is an old saying, "There is more than one way to skin a Tauntuan". The quick and dirty way isn't always the best...

Shaper was a bad idea, etc. Vong are just hard to design for. And Donny my issue isn't so much the now its the later. This will cause issues for design in this faction from now on and its a pretty big issue

Ya, so maybe we should have a discussion on SHHN about the way we should "fix" issues or the way we go about deciding what factions needs what.
Deaths_Baine and Shmi can represent that side of the argument (assuming no one wants to her from me haha)
Like I said before
One Size Fits All designing almost never works and it usually limits design.
For instance the Imperial Knight Armorer..

I think every character with a subfaction tag should only be able to benefit from abilities and CE of other characters with the exact same Sub- Faction. That would limit the amount of intereactions certain characters can receive.

-1 Far too simplistic of an approach and much too broad. EVERY character with a subfaction tag!?! That's nuts. I think subfactions are hugely important, and the future of SWM design. But I think there needs to be a nice blend. Example - Krennic/Death Troopers. Krennic is strictly limited, but gives all troopers whose name contains "death" a big boost. A very small, new subfaction. Great! But wouldn't it be silly if the Death Troopers couldn't play with anyone else? Yes - that would be. Death Troopers are better with Krennic (duh!), but can be played anywhere. KRENNIC however, cannot be played anywhere. So in this case - Pick your commander to go with the Death Trooper - but it can't be the big 3 with Krennic.

You know, I miss card art for the set. Be nice if we could get Johnny or someone to do it for future sets along with the theme.

For me, I don;t think every subfaction should HAVE to synergize with only their subfaction, but I do think that when subfactions only synergize with themselves you can make some seriously fun builds. The thing is that designing is already moving to designing with the purpose of playing the pieces together already. Look at new Ahsoka, her ce auto makes you want to play with Kanan. Han Solo, CL is begging to throw WA in there. Baze Malbus, you are going to want that +2 +2, better play with Imwe. We are even getting random (don't make sense) rival SA's to ensure that some pieces are not played with others. but I will attest to the fact that when designing while limited to a subfaction it makes for more fun even if there is less freedom in the squad building options. p.s. if the game does create designed subfactions than having themed wars/tournies/events is a ton of fun as well. Imperial Knights vs. Krayt and his hands Which could be fun for new players as well. easy squad building and themed

Part of the fun is finding things on your own. If subfactions only play with each other, part of that is taken away. For example, General Leia's boosts only work in a Resistance-pure squad, but there no Rival on any of the Resistance pieces. You can look for ways to use Han and Chewie somewhere else or boost Rey with Maz Kanata. They're probably best with Leia, but the pieces are there to find new synergies.
