I'm the opposite of you 501 trooper, I love the new shield ability. And I believe it's costed correctly, it fits the character and helps out a major weak point for sep heroes.
Also love:
Bao-Dur: old republic droid teams! Alt to bastilla!
Sith Recruit: cool new swarm piece that is anti strafe!
New General Grievous! Yes! The shield bot will allow me to forgive the lack of evade, spinning blade is awesome
New Han and Leia, versatility is really cool
The Imperial Triumvirate, alt for Thrawn
IG88A: my favorite bounty hunter is now the fantastic four
Ranged Rakghoul: epic zombie
Squib: finally balance for those doors/booming voice. Down with mice!
Voxyn Queen: very interesting reserves piece
Nihilius: what he should have always been

Dislikes
Covert Ops Trooper: way to overpowered! Save of 6 maybe
Dug Black Sun Vigo: didnt think that every faction needed good super stealth...
Mando Training Sergeant: great piece except that Cover Ops bit

Though all in all another excellent set!

Wub :
Bao-Dur, Tech Specialist (HKs, IGs, Juggernauts, even E5s, here I come!)
Sith Recruit (Suicide Bombers that help rerollsLove )
Senator Padme Amidala (Interesting Commander Effect and Abilities, I look forward to using her)
BX Commando Droid Sniper (The damage output on this guy is great for his cost, even though he has Single Shot)
Han Solo, Rebel General (YAHOO!ThumpUp )
Grodin Tierce's Clone (Awesome CEWoot )
Jedi Infiltrator (I really like Force Phase, and since it doesn't replace attacks, you can phase then attackThumbsUp )
Alexi Garyn, Head of the Black Sun (Although he has an awful name, his Commander Effect will work well)
IG-88A (Brings back the Rebel Storm IG-88 for some fun killing sprees)
YVH 2 (I like Self-Destruct Sequence)
Darth Nihilus, Lord of Hunger (Finally a playable Nihilus)

Cursing :
Sith Knight (WHY does he have Dispassionate Killer, isn't that what Sith are about; killing?)
Chewbacca and Ewoks in AT-ST (Awful name, and Ewoks don't need Advantageuos Cover and +4 Defense)
Flim (Meh )
Embo (I don't like the character)

Energy Shield is MUCH worse than Covert ops, because you can't evan hit the guy unless you're right next to them. Covert Ops you have a 50% chance of not working compared to 0%. You also have to be within 6 for covet ops.

You do know that when you make the save 11 for Energy Shield, the attack goes through as normal, right? So the main difference is the risk of taking the damage back.

Oh. I must have read the card wrong the first time.
Its still worse, though, because it doesn't have range. Covert ops is still an okay ability. I don't really like it though, evan though I play Mandos. This is because I look at abilities from EVERYONES point of view. Don't be like Obi-Wan, looking only "from a certain point of view"

I really like the new Epic Boba. He is amazing, and a good representation from the last 2 Legacy of the Force books.

Very much agreed on Boba! IMO Epic Exar and Tsavong will be lots o fun as well; while Revan Redeemed seems a bit too over the top for my liking.

I want to test out how bad both covert ops and energy shield actually is. So far, I'm not for or against them too much. Just make sure the enemy makes the save, so it can reroll the attack with force points or a CE.
Oh, I just realized you could use the covert ops with the gungan shieldbearer! Now THAT would be pretty bad for the enemy to see. Missing every attack %50 of the time and taking your own damage sometimes.

Grievous- finally, the kick-@$$ version, we all have been waiting for.
Shada D'ukal- when can we expect to see her sister? Next set maybe? :)
Mara Jade, Smuggler- solid Fringe piece.
IG-88A- cool addition, makes other IG-88 even more deadly ;)
Morrigan Corde- really good, I just wish she had 10 hp more :P
Anakin Skywalker, TCO- good character in Imps which makes me happy :)
Obi-Wan Kenobi, JN- perfect representation of this character (I like the bonus that him + Anakin, TCO =100 points :D)
Grodin- the best of IT characters.
Han Solo and Leia- just great!!
Zam Wessel, BH- nice version!
YVH 2- beast.
Dislikes
Disra- not worth his points, totally overcosted and waaay to fragile
Flim- seeing what he could have been in play tests, this version just makes me sad.
new Amidala- didn't we get Amidala in v-set 2? Was she really needed?
Jabba- cool piece, but isn't worth 60 points, I like that he can shoot though
Laranth Tarak- not what I've expected from this character based on reading the books
Yoda. O man, I wrote it already in that bothan transmission. I like him in Republic, since he unlocks some older pieces, but seeing him fighting with lightsaber for Rebels just doesn't make any sense to me.
Chewie in AT-ST- I just feel that there has been too much packed in him- Ewok Leader and Rout? Nevertheless, I like him.
Alexi Garyn- I don't see myself playing this character, what would be the reason, if better options are avaliable?
Crimson Nova Guild Leader- is it generic Mica, or what? I don't get why such high cost.
Mighella, BSB- overall good, I just wished she had more Force Powers

Qui-Gon Force Spirit, his special abilities are what you expect but for 16 points his new force power and CE are great!
Sith Bastila, great deep strike capabilities plus Sith Alchemy!
Sith Recruit, excellent special abilities on a cheap piece the Sith needed. Good design.
Mandalore the Vindicated, a great bag of tricks and he helps make the Mandos more competitive.
Mandalorian Training Sergeant, he may be an over-bloated piece, but I like that the designers invented a new movement breaker and it fits the Mandos perfectly.
Satele Shan, between her and Mical the OR are getting some nice mid-cost Jedis
Anakin Chosen One, I like the viability he brings and his cost makes him worth using even if you don't use all he has to offer.
Klatooinian Assassin, I'm not sure why I like this piece, just something in my subconscious tells me he has a useful combo.

Dislikes
Mandalorian Training Sergeant, he's and over-bloated piece. I think he's too expensive for 200, and at 500 he's too powerful. What are the Vong gonna do at against him? I guess we'll find out next week.....
Flim, I agree with Nader, a definite missed opportunity.
2 Mara Jades, this might stem from my dislike of Mara, but really?!, we needed 2 in one set?!
Nihilus, yes he represents his video game version well, but beyond his 22 def he has no way to stop shooters, wish he at least has deflect or something.

As for the Epics, I like Revan, but he's got a lot going on so he ends up being very expensive. Galen is neat, but being only a Rebel restricts him too much imo. And then there's Boba, he's cool, but he may be way too much. He can potentially be in 3 different factions and has access to a lot of tricks and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Again, I guess we'll find out at Gencon.....

He may not have explicitly built in, but he can bring Visas Mar along with him who is a solid Bodyguard. That plus the potential for a lot of healing and access to Marka Ragnos' illusion means he can be a tough nut to crack.

I think that covert ops is disliked more than energy shield just because it was created by the V-set team. Energy shield was an official ability, so many people are alright with it being open for the separatists that are weaker than the Republic (IMO). The Republic is already one of the most powerful factions as it is now, but with covert ops, it eliminated many possibilities for defeating them. So, basically, covert ops is argued against more often because it's a new ability that counters a lot of squads, and is available for the Republic, and it was a V-set design. I agree with 501st trooper that energy shield is more powerful, it's just an ability that has been made "fair" because the costing is fair for the battle droid spotter compared to the gungan shieldbearer.

I think it has more to do with how it can affect Melee figs more than shooters. Melee figures are inherently weaker than a shooter, it just how it is. So add something else to weaken Melee figs, most people won't like it. Let's face it, Jedi/Sith are some of the more popular characters.

I think they weren't ready when the V4 printing deadline arrived.

stats for Blizzard 1 (colossal) are posted in the V4 spoiler thread.

There were some comments made about printing the cards as part of V6 at Gencon next year, but that a PDF might be released sooner so people can play them.

For me, it's not about which is stronger (the strength of Covert Ops Training doesn't really bother me), it's how they work. You get around Energy Shield by moving up and getting adjacent, you get around Covert Ops Training by being far away. Energy Shield inherently encourages your opponent to engage you; Covert Ops Training inherently discourages that. In my opinion that makes for a less fun game.

Also what Sithborg said about it hurting melee.

I have to agree with both of you on covert ops. I play tested it and it kept everyone separated, but barely got used. It isn't powerful at all, it just was boring with all the characters shooting from far away, really ruining the point of close-combat. I'm against the ability, and I hope that it is changed around a bit to make it more melee close-up friendly.

My favourites:
Sith Blademaster - it's a fun, swarmy piece
All three Seps - look strong, and take Seps away from GGDAC/Whorm reliance
new Han - makes the main 4 characters central pieces in the Rebels
IG-88A - makes IG-88 Assassin into a dangerous shooter
Mandalore the Vindicated - seems huge for the Mandalorians with beefy Disruptive, lots of damage, and a strong CE.
Satele Shan - a melee piece for the OR that has a chance of standing up against Mace.

I don't really dislike anything - I haven't played a game with a Covert Ops piece. It seems hard to justify using the Republic piece for its cost, unless you're in a melee heavy meta.

I do think the Veteran Ugnaught is a little bit too expensive - it would have been fun having another Ugnaught option, but I can't see justifying it over having five normal Ugnaughts.
