darthbinks1 wrote:Is Mace with Master Yoda the same thing except he gets 1 less for attack and defense? Not quite. Yoda's CE is a ranged CE and thus needs Mas or Mice to increase the range whereas GOWK's CE is always boardwide, so Mace just needs anyone within 6 to trigger the CE. Also, GOWK is a better mini for the cost than Yoda in most situations. As for the topic on hand, I'd go with anyone with tempo control. After that, it'd be the person who uses a Palpatine, Sith Lord when you mention you want to test out a clone squad.

GOWK's a really good damage sponge too, while Mace is weak against shooters - GOWK both gives Mace a 30 defense in cover, and takes a lot of shots for him and Soresus them away. It's a really strong combination, even though it's 120 points. I like having Ferus Olin in there too for Jedi Bodyguard - makes it even harder to break down the two big Jedi.

Darth Zannah annoys the heck outta me. Poggle bombs are a very, very, very close 2nd.

Really, this discussion quickly comes down to a matter of what squads (not just pieces) you hate to play against. I find Lancer/Poggle to be an annoying (and often unfair) match. But Mace/GOWK, or Naboo Deathshots, or Stealth'n'Blue or [insert other dominant squad here] can easily have the same impact. In the end, this discussion is really about what parts of the competitive meta people like or don't like. And I say +11 to the tempo control comment: I'd happily never play Critdu again if San/Ozzel/Dodonna were instantaneously vaporized from existence.

ROFL But I agree wholeheartedly about all of the tempo control particularly Jan.

I don't understand the Bastila issue? Can somebody explain the problem. If it is V-set, I've probably never seen it before. Thanks

It is the V-set Bastilla, she has a Force Power which lets her Cancel enemy CEs for a Turn and boost her Allies damage by 10. The WotC Bastilla is by all accounts mediocre.

Yes but it's not just a turn, it's until her next turn which if played the way most people do, means you lose all your CE's for two rounds effectively. Then add in the damage bump and she is pretty annoying. My least favorite though has to be tempo control as well. However the gungan squad that ACE ACE runs that is high activation auto damage with a chance to bring gungans you've already killed back to life with a save roll is annoying as well, but maybe that's because I play against it a lot.

I would have to say anything with override, door control that allows you to lock doors is just not fun to me. I love it much more when doors are destroyed and fighting is going to happen. I know it has its place in the game and is a major part of the strategy of the game, but i would much rather have ughs blowing everything away and let the fighting roll.

For me the most annoying piece to play against is a toss up between Mace Windu and Mara Jedi. I say this because in the TN group there was a span of time where I faced nothing but NR squads featuring Mara Jedi, and I always thought it was ridiculous that she didn't have Melee. After MoTF there wasn't a whole lot out there to counter her with.
Then Mace dropped, and there was a span of time where I faced nothing but Mace squads. YoBuck/Mace swap squads, R2/Mace, R2, Foul and Mace. R2, Foul, Yobuck, Mace, swap. The movement breaker combos with Mace were just ridiculous. And I've seen that Mace win battles that there is no way he should have won. Like the most insane thing in the entire world had to happen for him to win, and I've seen him crit his way to victory anyways.
So for me, Mace and Mara.

My least favorite piece to play against is General Obi Wan Kenobi. What a perfect barve.

We just always felt the twin strafe without AoO was a cheap mechanic. Things have changed since we used to play (he stopped playing with the last set, i moved onto vset), but i still dont know that i'd field one even with the increase of counters.

I agree with bill.
strafe attacks get a LOAD of counters in set 7.
