Just want to confirm the way the finals are being run here -

I assume it is exactly like the NFL runs their playoffs. After the final rankings, for the quarterfinals, #1 and #2 get a bye. #3 plays #6 and #4 plays #5.

Then for the semi-finals, #1 plays the lowest ranked remaining player, (#6 if they win, otherwise winner of #4 vs #5) and #2 plays the highest ranked remaining player (#3 if they win, otherwise the winner of #4 vs #5).

Then obviously the last two remaining players play in the finals.

Is this correct, or is it being run as a straight bracket?

Straight bracket I believe. Just like a normal 8 man bracket, with 7 and 8 being replaced with BYE. So 1 will be playing 4 or 5 in the SEMIS and 2 will be playing 3 or 6.

NMN17103356 Star Wars Miniatures Team Tourney 200 pts Fri @ 7:00 PM 2 player teams. Each player has a 200pt. squad. Standard map list. Each player on the team must use a different faction. Each team can only have 1 total instance of a unique so if 1 player runs Boba Fett, the other player can not run any version of Boba Fett.

How are we deciding who plays who in each round?

Before the games start, each team designates one of their players the A player and the other the B player. A plays A and B plays B every round with normal setup rules at that point.

All games are played in the Rattatak Arena and players do not need to bring a map. There will be some pieces available to use for players who come without pieces

Confirming - this is solo this year?

Is this all in one block of time? How many rounds is it? Do we get given squads? More info - this is so vague.

Materials Provided: Yes, materials are provided for this game. You do not need to bring your own.

Yes, all one block of time. 4 rounds, 1 for each ERA of Star Wars. You and your opponent each get a pre-made ERA squad on a pre-determined map and play for the glory each round.

Rd 1 is KOTOR
rd 2 is Clone Wars
Rd 3 is OT
Rd 4 is Post ROTJ

Basis of this event is you get 2 characters assigned to you as your squad (generally 1 shooter and 1 melee that totally approximately 100 pts). You then get assigned characters to "hunt" and you and the other players play Star Wars Minis trying to hunt down your target to get points. Winner is player who accumulates the most points.

Get a squad of 3-4 minis assigned to you and placed on a map with all the other players. You cannot directly attack the other players although area effects can work on them. Kill Raks and put them in front of you to keep track of score. If one of your characters is defeated, you place one of the raks you killed in its spot (ie you lose a point) and your character respawns (there are a set number of times guys can respawn). At the end of the time, the player with the most points wins.

Think of this as Bruce Lee's 'Enter the Dragon', Star Wars style. 8 teams of two characters, 1 range and 1 melee battle it out in a no holds barred contest to see who is the best of the best. Each team is given 2 bounties to start the game, and additional bounties are earned whenever a kill is made. While you can attack anyone you want, you'll only score points for the bounties you have at the time of the kill. Winner is the team of 2 characters with the most total bounties.

Assassin is probably my favorite non-standard way to play minis after playing it at GenCon once. The rules just breed cool, fun moments.

That's the only sensible way to run it.

I would seriously play it this way. ThumbsUp

This would take up to much time. James has a pretty strict time limit.

Yes, Royal Rumble is an individual event this year.

Will you expand the event if the demand goes beyond the eight slots? I plan on signing up as well as another from the XW crew.

I can't speak for the people officially in charge, but I know some of it comes down to table space. That said I believe in general they calculate table space based on number of maps used (generally one map per two players). Since this event has three or four players per map there might be more physical space.

All that aside - The number one best thing anyone can do is buy a ticket for the event online right away. The best chance of expanding slots for an event is to have it sell out quickly. Then the fine folks running the event can go to the Gen Con coordinators and show that demand is high for an event and (maybe) get more space. Gen Con is a business and wants to get every penny out of every square inch of space they can. Events that don't sell all the tickets aren't as good of an investment for Gen Con as events that do sell out.

A bit about Death Race (III):

A lot of fun to be had for 6 players. No materials needed as I provide all dice, minis, cards and instructions. 3 maps end to end to end.

3 players set up on one side in a lane the length of the 3 maps equaling 1/3 of width each. 3 other players do likewise on the opposite side. They all roll a 20D with the highest roll getting first choice of one of 6 duos available for play. We proceed next highest all the way down to the lowest.

Once they set up, they roll for initiative. I roll a 4 sided dice to determine what I will do as the GM for that round. I do: nothing, run away or have 2 shots at attacking anything nearby my pieces that randomly spawn into action. I come in with pieces that are suitable for the maps we're playing on and attack any and everyone when possible. I will not attack more than 2 consecutive rounds nor will I sit idle or run away for more than 1 round at a time.

It is a race after all so the point is to get both of your duos to the opposite end of the 3 maps before the 2 hour time limit is reached. If you kill a character (enemy or GM either one,) you will automatically advance the mini that made the kill a predetermined number of spaces depending on the quality of the kill. Any time a player mini is killed by another player (to slow you down,) or by the GM, your character goes back to a spawn point at the beginning of the next round. Each map's spawn point is the beginning of the map and the halfway point so it is important to get there before dying. Once a character enters a new map, they will only return upon dying to the start of that map provided they haven't reached the halfway point.

It really is a great game and a lot of fun. I have had 33 of 36 spots filled in the first two years since I made it up and ran the event. Probably 90 percent of the players had not ever played before and all really enjoyed it a lot. We have prize support and most every game comes down to close to the hour limit and it usually a real race at the end to finish both duos. Several times we have even come down to the last initiative roll to determine who would finish first.

This year one of the maps is Korriban (WOTC) great for running. The duos and GM pieces will be Jedi-heavy. There are no movement breakers as well as no one with flight providing an advantage. The only way to move faster will be with force points.
Hope to see you there, it sells out fast so don't wait!
