I also did a bit more digging. In 2014 we submitted a full slate of BHC events. GenCon cut us to one days worth, six 2 player sessions. We had 10/12 attendance. The real problem is this. At GenCon this year we had 20ish swm players. 2/4 of them would judge the event. The other 16 or so would play over 8 hours. In that time no other swm events could happen because a good percentage of our player pool is either GMing or playing BHC. So the real question is, which two swm events that we run now would we want to cut to make room for BHC?

Thank you for entertaining all this.
So apparently we have a possibility of a Thursday morning time slot that was not used this year.
Would that time slot be available as part of help for bhc?

I have never been to gencon and have the slightest idea how it runs so please forgive my ignorance on the subject.

What exactly is the bhc event? Is it marketable? I know I love the 100 point pieces is what I know.
People say imperial assault, I don't even know what that is or tile wars or even what the Royal rumble looks like.

But if it was me and from what I have heard:

Championship
Sealed
Royal rumble
Tile wars
Epic
Bhc
Casual (think it should be more user friendly and maps super to use and commonly known names (seps, imps, rebels, republic))

Are the biggest options. So 7.

That would be my list if all fits

BHC is a one hour event where the challenger pays $6 to play a 200 or game against a veteran player. It started out as only hall of fame members playing the bounty squad. The bounty squad was a 200 point squad with 100pts being that year BHC piece. The HOFer had 2 squads one in each faction, the challenger decided which squad they wanted to play. If the challenger won they got the BHC card. If they lost they got nothing and had to try again.

The marketability problem is that it had no appeal outside of people who actively play SWM. We have at best 16-18 people at GenCon who are still actively playing SWM. We would need at least 2 and probably 4 of those people to not play in the event but be the person playing the BHC squad. That leaves us 14-16 people to play in the event. Some of them (like Lou) want to have time to go to the dealer hall so they wouldn't play in the event anyway. So in the end we are looking at an event that 8-10 people would good to play in for 1 hour each, and it would take upwards of 20 man hours to put on. It's a poor ratio.

If it's just about wanting more 100 pt cards let's ask the VSet team to include 1 a set.

The BHC idea makes me think of an event my buddies ran with D&D. PvP Monster Build Showdown. The organizer creates a character party team, and the participants create a monster team. Two player teams take turns, with one running the premade character party and the other running their monster team, and they see who can kill the character team faster. Maybe BHC challenge can be reorganized. Either have a participant run the BH team, and then they switch sides (which may fundamentally change the game, not sure) OR have multiple people on the non-BHC team, sort of like Royal Rumble. 3v1 style. Just thoughts.

Ya, that sounds like a marketable problem for sure.

Yep yep.
Maybe we can do our own bhc challenge as a fund raiser on vassal.
We should have a working budget

After we make the pieces.

I did a lot of BHC games and it was tons of fun. Since we were giving cards away for wins I felt like I'd play loose and fast against novices (remember the Teddy Grahams game?) but more focused against experienced players. (I remember beating Greentime twice in a row before he went out and got some generic tickets, threw them down and beat me.) While I remember some pretty fun experiences, there was a lot of downtime waiting for people to walk up and play you.

That is, in part, what James is referring to. The format is not cost effective. Unfortunately where we are now with GenCon, we cannot afford to not be cost effective. We have got to run stuff that constantly puts people in the seats with a minimal amount of cancellations and staffing. That's not even taking into account the logistical nightmare James has to deal with managing staffing.

This sounds like a great idea. Doing it on bloomilk sounds like a good place to put it and give a majority of the community access to it.

This could be a lot of fun and I would be for doing it, but only if the characters were not legal for 200 point standard play.
