Get rid of the ratings altogether.....why do we need them. If people want to leave a comment on the squad great. I think that is the important part of the system anyway. Most people just want feedback and the rating is not an accurate feedback, high or low.

I agree with 99% of what Bill posted. Bill, I do think it is responsible if you are leaving feedback to explain your comment. I know you think it is not your resposiblity to fix every squad, and you are correct. But if you are going to critique a squad, courtosy dictates you should explain. And if people are PMing you to rate there squad....they should be mature enough to handle the rating.

I agree that posting to people who don't even openly show who they are is never going to stop them from posting 1's. However, I disagree that the rating of 1 continues because people bring it up. There is no way of truly knowing if that would really stop people from posting 1's. That comment is pure speculation.

It isn't speculation I speak from experience.

Last two times someone brought this up their squads got pinged with 1s, like almost all of them. I commented in the thread and magically a dozen of my squads got 1s.

It throws fuel on the fire, it like when you are a kid and other kids bugged you, if you ignored them eventually they stop.

I don't post speculation, perhaps you should find facts before judging next time.

I did not say it doesn't effect it, It makes sense that 1's increase in the squads of those who complain about it. That was not my point and based on the way you stated your original comment, that was not your point either.

I simply stated that the 1's will continue to show up even if people stop complaining about them. I also said there is no way to really know because people always post about how irritating it is, so you cannot know if 1's would stop with the stop of people complaining about it, I just don't think those conditions will ever be met.Wink Complaining is probably going to continue as long as we have new players coming, posting squads, and expecting 8-10 ratings.

In fact, Bill's comment that people rate squads "1" because they use the full1-10 scale is a statement that supports that 1's will continue even if people stop posting their complaints. Perhaps you should correctly interpret my postings before claiming my statement was based on a lack of facts.

Quick thought: what if the rating actually meant something?
For instance, it could range from 10 being the perfect competitive squad and then 1 could be the most fun themed squad (and hence, would not be very competitive...usually)
Thoughts?

So would a 5 then reflect an even balance of viability and theme/fun factor?

I think it has been brought up before that having a "squad type" category (ie competitive vs theme/fun) would give raters more flexibility.

Or perhaps just have a dual rating system with a rating for both aspects?

I'm just thinking out loud. I don't really care about ratings on any squads I post.

The real problem tends to be two-fold. First, it's people who don't use 1-10 when they rate. 2nd - Lack of rating criteria among players. I rate based on several different criteria, as do most people. The problem is, none of it is consistent from player to player. So one guy like me, might see a Revan squad that looks pretty good for a Revan squad and I'll rate it a 5 for being well above the average. Other people think that's worth a 10, even though it won't beat 90% of the other 200pt squads out there, and most of the time will get slaughtered.

Okay, I agree with about 95% of what you have said so far in this thread. But I am going to call a small shenanigan on the bold section. I went through your first 50 squads and if you do rate based on criteria you obviously do not apply the same criteria to your own squads as you do to all other squads. I base this on the fact that of all 50 squads i went through, only 2 of them did not have a creator rating of 10.

I highly doubt anyone on the site has anywhere near the total amount of 1 votes
I've received and continue to receive. Feel free to count them up and post it. It would be quite funny to see actually.

And as to this i counted 13 1 ratings while going through your first 50 squads. Which I admit is quite a few.

I do like your idea of coming up with a criteria topic and listing out some things for people to look at when commenting on squads.
The things i look for are: 1. How much synergy they have in their squad (i.e. how well their pieces benefit each other), 2. Do they have a decent amount of door control, 3. Do their main pieces have decent survivability (Def and HP), 4. Do their main pieces have good support, 5. Do they have a decent amount of activations, and 6. Are they wasting points on pieces that are not helping the squad

yup, deja vu all over again.
just get rid of the rating system altogether. all it does is increase ones ego.
one guy asked me to rate his squad a couple of weeks ago, and i did. i gave it a 5, and to some, they would think that is a low rating, to me, it isnt. the squad was great, it had all the synergies one would give a great score for, BUT, if it got force sensed, the squad would be doomed. the guy played the squad later in the week (he got 4 10's from other members, which blew my mind), and as predicted, his squad got Powned. what did he do? he completely changed his entire squad, name and all.
sure, people want to see 10's on their squads, but the fact of the matter is, most squads on here arent worth an 8. we hand out these ratings like they have no meaning, which in turn makes the rating system useless.
most of my squads these days say 'not afraid of 1's version 1. whatever"., because i dont care about ratings, i used too when i first jumped on this site, but learned real quick that the ratings are only worth the number that is typed in.
take into consideration too, that the ratings and squad building are a luxury, not a responsibility. regardless, if you take the time to type out the squad, you also take the responsibility of owning 1's on your squad. dont think of it as "i took all this time to make the squad, and Im getting 1's!!", think of it as people with with nothing better to do then to hate on you. it will never pass go, it will never get you 200$.

I would love to see a multi functional rating system like this! Then, even if the person does not type a comment, you still get good feed back from someone rating your squad.

Another idea is to not calculate the squad creators rating into the average. This removes the "they gave themselves a 10, then they deserve a 1 because no squad is prefect" mentality. And I believe this would reduce the total number of unfair 1 ratings.

I wish there was a system where it would tell you who rated you what, so people would at least know who did it. I've been a victim once or twice, too.

I could honestly care less if all my ratings were 1's I have only made a handfull of squads and most of them have gotten ratings (whoopie I might add) but noone leaves comments I just want to know how to make them better cuz most squads I build are one's I have played or ones that I want to.

I never play my squads.

My friend and I do a quick-build squad making thingy every time we play. After choosing factions/maps we get eachother's Fringe deck for a limited amount of time, say 2 minutes. We pick out some we want then swap decks. The thing with this is you have to use half of the figures you choose, so you wouldn't just take out all the ewoks or whatever. It also adds more strategy, for instance, I took out his Boba Fett simply because I didn't want to face him.

P.S. This works best when both collections are about the same in size/quality.

Do you want some cheese for that whine? I am just playing man! I do like that idea though, it kind of remind me of the GVL teams, but I am not a gvl player anymore.

I'm not even going to bother to read the thread because I'm sure it will be all the same comments and ideas.

Add comment lines that must be made before posting a rating was the one that seemed on top last time. Personally I'm for a wipe of all ratings and restart the system with a new one Woot If you don't "reboot" once a new system is put into place then all the new ratings are meaningless within the new system with old data corrupting the process. With taht said I doubt anything will ever be changed because it is alot of work and would be alot of headache listening to all the complaining.
