LOL at EmperorDragon. @ original poster: The best you'll find are my scans in the VASSAL module at 50 dpi. If you have the coding experience to tackle something like this, you'll have no problem figuring out how to extract them. I wish you the best, but I fear you don't likely have the required time and skill to pull off something as complex as a SWM clone on your own. Even the experienced coders here (shinja, Engineer and to a lesser extent me) haven't take a stab with good reason due to the complexity. What language are you writing in? What have you written in the past? You're really planning to tackle AI vs multiplayer?

I always felt the touch screen would be perfect for this.

It's certainly understandable to be skeptical about this, but too much poking fun is not called for.
Let's not have a fire start here.

This is intriguing...
Are you planing on writing the game in Java or C++ (or C#)? Or some other language?

Okay, this is the second time I've had to clean this thread. Last warning. If I have clean this thread up again, I will be issuing temporary suspensions. So, keep the topic on this potential fan project, and not other posters, both as haters or past history.

Good luck, Stick to it, and don't give up. I've wanted something like this a long time. Let me or Armoredgear7 know if you need any help with graphics stuff.

For a community that’s so caring and giving, I've got to say I'm surprised and little embarrassed at the reaction to this project and for the fella doing it! This is a great idea! Sounds like he has good passion for the game and really wants to develop something for all of us! If he makes it and it works, guess what? That will be F$£$ING fantastic for us all! If he doesn't, I'm sure he'll have gave it his best! Anyone else having ago at it or offering to help him out? I know I'd love to but I'm not skilled in that area. Best of luck with it mate, and in the spirit of Star Wars... May the Force be with you.

I'm sorry, but being skeptical is not the same as not caring. The facts do not support the likelihood of it being done for many reasons. I hope the guy does it, I said as much. That doesn't change that fact that I don't think a guy new to programming, with his first post on the boards is at all likely to understand what he's getting into. People expressing their doubts does not mean they aren't supportive. And saying so is not uncaring, its exactly the opposite. I was more annoyed by the blanket hypocrisy being shown by another poster in this thread than anything else.

Scepticism often comes across as negativity. I'm not saying you're being negative. You've already stated what you were annoyed about. All Im saying is alot of sceptics poke fun, and all the fella needs to hear from the community is 'best of luck' or 'need a hand?' It's no different as to when the V-sets were announced. People doubt, people grumble or people cheer and praise. Half full or half empty. Thats all.

Works for me :) And I agree, making fun of the person, would not be called for. Now if it were Jonny, then entirely called for :)

OP from the WotC boards: Quote:Now that I think of it, it might take the same amount of time, I dunno. It will definitely have multiplayer, that is guarenteed. It'll just take a while for the whole thing, because I'm new at programming and this is my first endeavor to make a game. So I don't know when version 1.0 will be done. As soon as I figure out AI, It'll all be a breeze. Figuring out AI is the opportive word. How new is new? I hope this works out for you. If new means you just graduated with a degree in CS, it's probably doable but challenging. If new means just one semester of programming (and you don't know recursion or data structures yet), I'd recommend starting with a smaller project. Here's a smaller project that I thought would be interesting that might be within the scope of a brand new programmer: Melee simulation. Just put two melee attackers adjacent to each other. Roll initiative and each takes a turn attacking. Repeat until someone dies. Include support for all the relevant abilities: Parry, Lightsaber Block, Djem So, Riposte, Mighty Swing, etc. (If you haven't learned recursion, you'll need to leave out Djem So and Riposte.) Run the simulation repeatedly to see which character comes out on top most often in a toe-to-toe melee match. This would still be a significant project, but avoids movement, cover, and targeting - some things that I think would be some of the more challenging parts of a SWM computer implementation. If you're successful, you'd have something useful and much of it could be re-used in a full game with the map and everything.

This would be sweet but it might prove more difficult then imagined. Just a question. How do the rights work, mean As far as Copyright issues?

It's a copyright issue just as much and in the same way that the SWM Vassal game is.

"Making fun of Jonny" would have made little to no sense prior to my listening of 56 episodes of SHNN. Now that (and Big Ten, and Lou's relationship status, hacking in to Gamers, and *occassionally* minis) makes me chuckle.
