Even if both players have equal gambit and equal points, the person who has the highest point cost piece will win in the end as that is the next tie-breaker. That leaves it up to the "losing" player to engage the action. It doesn't really matter if you do this at 15-20 mins into the game or if you have spun your pieces for 3 turns each and now there is only 10 mins left in the match.
You're right. Sadly, my opponents don't always know to do this when they have the lower cost piece.

Yeah, I have a couple of locals who do the same sometimes.

I remember when I was first playing on it I kep looking at the statue of Dodonna thinking, "Where have I seen that before?" I think his book gave him away As I always like to say if Dodonna attacks you, he is throwing his book at you.

Did they change the tiebreakers? I thought the tiebreaker was who was closest to the center of the map when time ran out. Highest cost piece was the next tiebreaker after that. Edit: Here's the relevant part from the 2012 floor rules: If a match ends before a player meets the victory condition, players complete the current round. If neither player has reached the victory condition, the following tiebreakers are used: 1. The player who has scored the most victory points wins the match. 2. The player whose model is closest to the center of the terrain map wins the match. 3. If more than one model is equally close, the player that owns the highest-cost model closest to the center wins the match. If the players are still tied, the match is considered a double-loss (no match points are awarded).

no they didn't change, but it should be easy to get the highest cost fig to the middle of the map.

Not if a bunch of high-offense but lower-cost pieces are guarding it.

So many of my maps have little easter eggs on them, and I think at least one console on every map I've worked on has an AG7 logo somewhere. Most of the galactic basic says silly stuff about the location or stuff that was happening when I made the map. But my favorite map? The second map we ever got: Muunilist from the Clone Strike starter. It's not especially pretty but I love the logic and simplicity of it. When I did the epic map for Gencon 2011, I based the grid of the streets on Muunilist because I loved it so much. However, my favorite map in terms of artwork is a tie between my Commercial Spaceport (I have that one hanging above my desk at work) or my Mustafar map from Map Pack 2. Chris West's Offworld Shipping Center is up there too.

I love the original Muunilist as well! My first map and it's remaine a favorite. (I don't have Peaceful City so I can't comment). Commercial Spaceport does have some very nice artwork, it's also a great semi-mirrored layout and on top of that I get a ton of mileage out of it in RPG campaigns! One of my favorite maps.
What kind of event was that big epic map used for?

I know that many of us would have a lot of fun using that one! It would be amazing for RPG use, as well as for high-point skirmish games.

Thanks Trev. Vassal uses 50 pixels-per-square maps and the "original" size of the image on flickr is already scaled correctly - just download it and stick it in, unless you'd like me to add the vassal letter/number grid and send you the result.

I'd be in for a copy too. I'd wait to have about 2 weeks though, bit short on cash atm.

I love Rancor Pit, but then I play a lot of separatist (lancers and bombs), but it is actually a very even map and you can ignore door control and just go toe-to-toe

Sorry, I actually tried this and the map still seems to be the wrong size...it's too small to fit the 50pps that vassal uses. Would you mind please sending the map to me with the proper size? Or maybe I'm doing something wrong myself, but I don't know what.

I did, and according to the Windows file properties panel the file is 1700 x 4400 pixels at 50dpi. http://www.flickr.com/photos/armoredgear7/8374554686/sizes/o/in/set-72157632502095569/

That link was helpful. I've got the map added. Now one more thing: what is its name? Should I name it "Josh's Big Huge Epic Map"? Come to think of it, that does have a smooth sound to it.... :)
