So maybe NOT so Deja Vu, atleast we have a 1 bandit getting flamed for his actions. in DPs past thread, he was being "passive Aggressive", here, we get to the root. Do tell....

Envy (also called invidiousness) may be defined as an emotion that "occurs when a person lacks another's (perceived) superior quality, achievement, or possession and either desires it or wishes that the other lacked it. The Catholic definition of envy is to wish you had another man's tangible or intangible blessings. The difference from the word jealousy is that an envious person wishes the other did not have the envied blessing

The rating system is unfortunately inherently flawed, and there's not really much to be done about it aside from removing it.

I still believe the biggest "flaw" in the rating system are the raters, not the 1 bandits. I submit to you the current top 5 list of squads in the 200 pt format. I know, some of these are winning for some of you locally, but seriously, they aren't what I would call the best of the best. Many of them have plenty of ratings already that easily offsets any 1s, and yet they are still there. Until you can fix the rating system, worrying about who rates a 1 and who rates a 10 is insignificant.
Oh and to the guy who had issues with me giving my own squads a 10. You need to look at how many squads I have posted. For quite a while, I had at least one person rating me with 1 the moment I posted. So I gave up rating my own accurately and use my one vote to offset one of the sure to come 1 votes. Remember, a 10 and a 1 becomes 2 5s, so neither ends up being significant. But I do have one squad with 30 ones on it alone, and it won Gencon. Perhaps the "50" you claimed to have looked through were not a very good sample size. Also, you should note that many times, the second vote is a 2 or a 3 as well, not always just ones. The effects are similar.
1 vote rarely makes a significant effect, you all stress out way to much over it. Just use the rating system for what it's meant for, entertainment. Nothing more. It won't ever tell you what the best squads are, because community wide votes will never tell you that. Further, random sampling of voters is even less predictable in this way. I'm sorry to say it, but most of the ratings people give out are not very informed, come from players who aren't playing the game at the top levels, and who have quirky ideas of what is "good". And that isn't a criticism of them either. That's just the reality of letting everyone vote.
I look at it this way. If there are say 10% of players who can play the game at the top levels, why would I expect a top level squad to be understood and rated properly by the other 90% of voters? They aren't capable of giving that information, so expecting it is a false expectation on our parts. Case in point, a Darth Revan squad is currently tops in 200, why because fanboys love Revan, and they don't know what a top tier squad should look like, and won't recognize one even when they see it. So stop expecting the rating system to do anything more than it currently does.

I stopped making my serious squads public a long time ago on here...before GenCon, I think. BlooMilk is a great site I spend a lot of time on...it has many unique features and has become a valuable tool to the community. The rating system, unfortunately, is not one of them. Case in point...look at the top 5 100 pt squads. Mine is rated #2, and Evman's is rated #5. Neither one of these squads is really competitive. (I'm not being disrespectful to Evman, he's the youngest member of our play group here and we've discussed this in person already.) If I want advice on a squad I'll contact someone whose opinion I respect and value and ask them, unless it's a fun squad and then I'll post it here.

Zerg is the father of Buzz Lightyear. Unless he's using the name of a race of beings in StarCraft...in which case would make him a schizofrenic.

This conversation needs to end...it once again is going nowhere. Why have ratings at all? I think the most important point of making squads public is to get feedback. Some of my squads are rated high, and some are rated really low.....it is meaningless. I would much rather get a one with a critque of my squad than a 10 with no comment. Because of all this fighting and problem with the ratings, I can't get the good players to even look at my squads anymore. This really is a pointles argument.

BUT, this will remain a hot bed of discussion for along time, unless it gets fixed. me personally? i could care less about the rating system, but everyday we have Newbies jump on this site, and everyday someone wants to know why they got a 1. where it might be a dead issue for most of us, we have to remember that its a new discussion for them. i say until it gets fixed (or ever), we just steer clear and let the fur fly. because there is nothing that we can do at the moment to repair it.

sigh
Deja Vu, for about the fourth time.
Billiv really is spot on. Public ratings will do nothing other that foster fueds, and the raters are nowhere near consistant. I'm sure most of you would think I am too harsh, when the bulk of my ratings are 5s and 6s. 7 is about the highest I will rate a squad if I really like it. 8, 9, and 10s all either need to be proven, or be something new that I really think is fun and competitive. I think I have only rated less than 10 squads a 10 and less than 25 a 9.

The Key is, do you leave a comment on your rating. You have done that in the past with a couple of mine that you rated. The number is really irrelevant, but the comment is the key to better squads!!

after all, anything that is publicized will be critiqued. how can one make a better squad if there is no one to give suggestions? i say we can the ratings, and only work with feedback. its possible.
