Characters with Force Powers can OPEN a closed or locked door within 12 squares, by spending a Force Point. Whether or not this should "replace attacks" or include "only on this Character's turn" or "at the end of this Character's turn" is up for debate. I would characterize it like the unwritten FPRR or FP to move 2 extra squares rule
2fp, replaces turn, adjacent doors. If it's a standard ability on everyone it should be significantly weaker than named abilities like Satchel Charge and Door Shatter.

Nah, it should be 1FP, replaces attack. You are giving up a likely big character in your squad (I understand some cheap force users could do it too, no different than an ugnaught at that point). But it already costs more. 1FP is enough. Has to be replaces atks or there could be abuse. Think of the fun holosid would be on this :)

I don't have a problem with him myself, but force-wielding ugnaughts seems to be up there with nonmelee lightsabers and lightsaber-resistant doors.

No offense, but a lot of the hubbub I see here is from 2 people I have never even heard of or met in a SWM environment. Ideas are fine, but really as I said before, if you don't travel or play an tournaments or attempt to play the game with many others and not just your local people, your opinion doesn't mean much. Others may not say it, but trust me, they think it too.
I think making big changes to a game's mechanics that have been around for more than a decade is foolish. To appease a person or people that don't travel and didn't even whrn WOTC was pumping out product, is more than ridiculous. Even if they did attend and I just didn't meet them, they don't now and the game is what it is. Make an effort to show up and you're missives will be more relevant.

Bear in mind, these are changes to one event - if enough people advance register. The game can surely handle this. Especially if this event gets good attendance.
Also these are just brainstorming ideas for this event. No changes have even been nailed down. Who knows, could be a few changes in the end.

I could be way off on this, but what if we ran 1 maybe 2 Vassal events with this "custom" format to see the buzz and what the reaction is to the game afterwards? Might help with some preliminary numbers. What do I know? I'm just a fat guy that runs a Farm Store. Could be fun, could be an eye opener.

I was talking a little bit with TJ yesterday, and I think an event similar to the Rebel vs Imperial, Seperatist vs Republic campaigns we run in the off-season would be a blast to run at Gencon, and I could probably work with TJ to iron out details.

Sounds fun. Start a different thread for that.

It is primarily for those who wish to shape this casual tournament for GenCon. Brainstorming is the obvious first step. Perhaps someone could organize the different thoughts into one list and go from there. Again, competitive players: we have our format, we have our tournament. Let the casual players make this one. I know it's well intended, but interjecting our specific ideas is counter productive. We are trying to facilitate an event, for casual players, made by casual players.

Ok Casual event rules that we need to agree on. I will throw out a few examples that can be agreed on or thrown out. But we do need some kind of "official list"
Banned pieces or abilities
I vote Dodonna, Mas Amedda, Wyyrlok, any unpreventable damage
Rule changes
Lightsaber is melee CE's are board wide 6 squares
Can only have 30 points of non-unique in each squad Cannot have more than 3 of the same piece in any squad Force users can open a door within 6 squares by replacing attacks Huges cannot gain cover from smalls
*When a non-force user targets a character more than 6 squares away that character gets -2 attack or -10 damage (or something)*

Sounds good, although i would no limit non-uniques. Swarm tactics become much less effective with CEs limited to 6. If you get problems with it, just include some missiles/flamethrower.

If you don't agree with that, well then, you're exactly part of the problem. 4) Man, jak is really trying to get himself banned again I see.

kkj wrote:Whats up with all the insults here? Can we please stop that and communicate in a friendly way? Otherwise i see no reason to further participate in this thread. My job title is a special education teacher but for the last three years I have served as a behavior specialist and I have seen Jak on here through the years. The function for his behavior seems to be "attention", i suggest not referring to him at all. There was this tv movie titled Merlin starring Sam Neil and Martin Short played a gnome and as a kid I had a huge crush on Queen Mab. Well at the very end of the movie Merlin and Mab square off and Merlin tells Mab that he is simply not going to give her attention and she will cease to exist. Kind of same idea here. Since his function is to receive attention if you give him known he will seek attention somehow, either by being nice or by leaving. or he will continue being stubborn and trying and failing, eventually it will stop for a while. So, in regards to your question, The insults seem to be for attention. Can he stop? well probably not on his own. I suggest continuing participation whilst ignoring.

a squad with only 2 Vsets pieces would be cool light sabers wielders could cut a hole in walls and doors like in the movies every jedi, and sith gain light saber defense I like the activation limit idea
I'll think of more.........................

Techically I asked, and the question was "condsider yourself more into casual games". Not exactly the same, but close. Clearly it was said to make the point that casual players can find lots of fun things from SWM at GenCon already. If this event brings more people in, they will most likely do other events too. TimmerB123 wrote:jak wrote:is a casual player going to spend hundreds of dollars to attend GenCon to play in 1 casual event?
As I said before, GenCon has so much more to offer. Just our SWM games has tons of casual scenario events, minis madness, mystery map, Royal rumble, etc. Jak - these days you'd consider yourself more into casual games, correct? Yet you go and have fun every year. Some might consider this new event the "Pemier Casual SWM tournament", but there is plenty more awesomeness: other casual SWM, other Star Wars stuff, other games, cosplay, and lots of other splendid nerdery. Also - my first post in this thread: TimmerB123 wrote:I want to emphasize that this invitation is sincere. This isn't a snarky "If you think it's so easy - you do it" gambit.
I really want to have everyone feel they can be a part of this. This is the opportunity.
Since this is the main point of it - I would love to see people who have never been to GenCon be the main drivers of this conversation, but other casual players that would be interested in this format can contribute too. Still want people who have never been to GenCon be the main drivers here. Other Casual players may contribute also. Regardless, let's keep it civil.
