the thing that made Star wars so sweet back in the day is that there was no Cannon, (except the Ewok movies, and we can sweep those right under the rug)

As this thread is just about as off topic as it's going to get, I'm going to go ahead and post a short dissertation.

It's called

"Why Your Star Wars Is Not Better than Anyone Else's Star Wars(Except LucasArts)."

Or alternatively, for those of you who know who they are.

In 1977 George Lucas premiered a whole new genre of science fantasy by the name of Star Wars. It's first movie, Episode 4: A New Hope, using a combination of multicultural iconography, muppets, cutting edge special effects, and use of the classic american monomyth entranced not one, but several generations.

Since it's release over a quarter century ago, the franchise name alone has been leant out to hundreds, if not thousands of creative minds, in the form of toy makers, comic book and novel writers, handbook writers, encyclopedia writers, illustrators, painters, sculptors, game designers and developers, car manufacturers, Presidents(Star Wars defense systems anyone!), cartoonists, puppeteers, Churches, and countless more outlets around the world.

It has continued to grow and propigate itself due to an enourmous and ever growing fan base, splitting and reuiniting into cannon and non-cannon, standard universe, extended universe, force universe, Wookie light day/Lowbocca universe, Ewoks Universe, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

One would think, that like many world spanning phenomena, this would bring together it's fans young and old, together to enjoy the genre for itself. Unfortunately, this is often simply not true, even at the turn of the 21st century where for the first time in history, being a nerd can be construed as being as "cool" as anything else.

There are HUGE rifts in the Star Wars community, most often caused by those who feel that their impression of the Star Wars Universe, is, for whatever misguided reason, the "Correct" interpretation of it, and that there is no room for enjoyment of the genre, outside of their immediate perameters and views. The modern internet is a breeding ground for this type of behavior.

Your knowledge of Star Wars, or for that matter anything, does not make you a better or worse person, than anyone else. Your preffered Star Wars materials do not make you the superior or better fan. The length of time you watched Star Wars does not make you more, or less qualified to define "good" "bad" or "should" than any other fan. It's my estimation that the diffrence between "I like" "I dislike" "I will buy/Won't buy" etc, and "This is how things are, should be, need to be" is the line between fan and fanboy, but that's a thesis for another day.

The fact is, the only people who get to make that determination, and it be more than simple hot air on the wind, are the good people at Lucasarts, who release and control the brand of Star Wars.

There is alot of good, and alot of bad, in all of the Genre. Throwing fits that your favorite parts are better than someone elses, in any form, even anonymously and digitally, diminishes not only you, but the whole of the fan base. I can point out awful dialogue, and poorly considered stuff in every single movie, and plenty of episodes of the cartoon, but that doesn't make me love it any less at the end of the day.

And I know better than most, I was such a fanboy I refused to watch or have any thing to do with the genre for years after the prequels, until, as an adult, I found myself drawn to Saga Edition, and Star Wars miniatures. Now I find it comical how heated I got about what were some pretty acceptable movies, even with the parts I don't like, and I look forward to seeing new products and stories come out, in all versions of star wars, for years to come, my best friend and his son (who's now six) also enjoy all era's of Star Wars, and find that they are better when shared, not maligned over.
