creme_brule wrote: I think there's a few issues relating to that. Publicity is one; since this is completely community-generated we DOTF doesn't have the benifit of stores to mass sell the cards. Secondly, because it is completely community-generated and not WOTC 'approved' lol, it might be hard to believe that these are legal cards and that you can proxy in any mini you want. I know for myself that I'm always dubious whenever I see Yu-Gi-Oh cards selling at chinese markets if they are really 'legal' cards. However, this isn't really much as an issue since many of the people online here who fully know about DOTF are kind of the leaders of their play groups; who can explain the legalism of DOTF.
The only reason I'm disagreeing with this is because majority of the winners are always on the forums and seemed to be very happy with DotF. If the Regionals were won by people not on the forums, I could understand this being a problem, but majority of the winners knew the set was legal and had access to it. Yet... Quote:Lastly, I think the greatest problem is that a lot of us are justused to playing the same squads over....and over....and over....which is why I think it was awesome when (Engineer?)'s squad with Nute Gunray won his Regional. Totally outside-the-box thinking using a near-obsolete piece to win. Power creep as well just seems to be spoon-feeding us uber effects and ultra boosted figures. Ex include: Rieekan. Take a mediocre squad and throw him into the mix and boom. The squad gets instantly better amazingly. Same with Thrawn and a couple others. DOTF puts some cool spin on many figures that may be risky; curious; or even crazy. I know for me that it would be hard to set aside a Rieekan; Whorm; or Thrawn squad for some minor faction squad thats experimental (such as new-Nom Bombs; Bastila JM; etc.) Hopefully R&R; Epic; and BoT will help promote these VSets more to use. As in the words of Hercule Poirot, "Man is the most unoriginal animal".
Whew....that was quite a long rant...:P I think that's the main reason. They grew comfortable with the pieces and chose those over trying new stuff with DotF. Some of the winning squads are exactly the same as last year, no changes at all it seems. So they likely didn't want to risk trying new stuff and went with the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" type of thinking.

I think part of the point of the v-set was to bring the lesser factions closer in to the major factions. So the factions that were already good haven't had that many powerful additions in the first v-set. Two of the most significant pieces from Destiny for top factions, that have been in regional winning squads, are tech pieces that weren't that glamorous up front - Pallaeon in Imperials, and Poggle the Lesser in Seperatists.

He's a cheap rare and everyone who needs him has him. I've got 4 Gha Nachkts and the 3 extra have been sitting in my Trades for eons.

I've already got him, so he doesn't help my collection (as opposed to Barriss, who's one of the few I still need from CW). I've seen Gha Nachkt as cheap as forty-nine cents at Troll and Toad, so he's not great trade bait. I'll put him up on my trade list as soon as I get the card (Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU Hothie!), but given that no one has responded to any of my Bloo mails regarding trades, I'm thinking he's not going to do me a lot of good in the long run.

Had no success this weekend at the local Targets. At three targets I saw zero minis. IM Just waiting for them to restock

Stopped by Target today, and there was only a lone IE booster sitting on the pegs, waiting, nay pleading to be bought. I obliged it and was repaid for my kindness with a Jerrjerrod. Bleh.
In other news, Target's apparently doing a massive liquidation of their Lego stuff. Nearly half of it was on clearance.

One of my local Targets restocked. I picked a CW and 2 JAs. I was kinda iffy on the CW as it was smashed and taped on top. After cutting the tape at the checkout and seeing it was still sealed, I went ahead and bought it. That booster gave up Yobuck, Star Corps Trooper and Battle Droid Sniper. The JAs gave up Grand Master Luke, Darth Sidious Sith Master, a Sith Lord, Sith Apprentice, Jensaariai Def, and YV Ossus Guardian. Three boosters, three rares I needed. Not too bad.

I will give Eric L (Engineer) credit for bringing Nute Gunray to the SWM's attention and doing very well with him, starting from last year. HOWEVER, it was MY Nute squad that won a regional.

Stopped by a three story Target today and was very happy to find 3 GaWs sitting on the end caps near the Toys section along with a bunch of IEs and JAs. First booster opened: Took out the cards and lo and behold a picture of a cowboy was staring at me. Also pulled an R7 which is very nice. The other two yielded Gen Skyguy and Rexy. Pretty good pulls overall; no junk V/R luckily. Decent U/C as well; pulled 2 or 3 501sts, B3, Seargant, to name a few. Very happy today.

Well, one target had nothing and the other had nothing but IE and one lone JA. After pulling a fourth Ewok Shaman and Lobot (and the 6th freaking bacta tank!), I think I'm done with the IE. I swear, that Bacta Tank felt JUST like a Potty Palpy.
*RAGE*
Ah well. Either way, it looks like it's starting to dry up.

While it's not exactly Target-related I did manage to pick up a $13 Clone Strike and Bounty Hunters booster off an ebay-related website which I am very happy about. :) Here's hoping for a Destroyer Droid, Skiff, and Boba lol.

have Targets pretty much dried up? I did a round a couple weeks ago. Have been back to a few, a couple were not restocked, a couple were but with only IE and JA.
On a related note, when Target first got in the 40% off boosters, Fred Meyers did as well...but I haven't seen any at my Freddies in a couple months. Anyone else finding them at Freddies still?

Did anyone buy IE when they were first released? I dropped out of collecting minis around KotOR, when the focus became the Clone Wars cartoon. When Target first started discounting, I picked up one or two, but I still didn't want to pay $12-13 for boosters. When they went to 50% off, I was still kind of "ehhh". Now at 3.99 (and sometimes 6.99, dangit) I have bought every non-IE or GaW booster I could find for 30 miles around. All I find now are 3-4 IE boosters and very rarely 1 GaW. I'm just wondering why that set lingers when it seems everyone wants mouse droids and Palps on Thrones.
By the way, FlyingArrow, congrats on your score.

The two primary reasons are that WotC produced way too much of the set and that as a 40 mini set, people didn't need to buy as much (1 case and you're only missing 4 minis). Also with the Mouse Droid being the only mini people needed in significant quantity, most referred to use the secondary market to get them rather than buying boosters for the off chance they'd pull one.

Well, bad news. The person with the CS booster apparently never had it, and the person with the BH mismarked it (it's really a TFU booster). Argh. Continuing on my search for rare boosters lol.

The Target's here in NE Ohio seem to be resupplying often. I couldn't resist and bought 2 GaW an IE and a JA last night. I'm an addict I guess, and there's a Target next door to my local grocery.
Gaw - Cpt Rex and Flobi JA - another *%$#%^ Yoda IE - R2 with antenna
Drop me a line if you want to trade for one of em.
