I'm pretty sure you have no idea what you are talking about Mike, but hey don't let that stop you from making an ass out of yourself. It's not like the game of Star Wars Miniature isn't in a fragile state right now. 12 people showing up to play in Kokomo is just sad. I was there last year and the year before when there was 23. It's fallen that far since then. No one is getting great turnouts. Places like Atlanta and North Carolina are not even doing tournaments this year. Yet you want to bash our tournament? To what end? Because we tried? Because we're passionate about this game? Because we have a mighty 4 page discussion going on about Klats!? Because you scoff at the competition? I've played the best players in the game, and have won/held my own against all of them, so you don't have to take Deaths_Baine's word, you can take mine. The competition was great, but more than that, it was a lot of fun. If the qualifications for being recognized as a GOOD player is that you have to beat EVERYONE while playing competitively then my god, we're not going to be able to call anyone good anymore. That's just silly. Soon the only play groups left will be Chicago and Indiana. Have fun making custom stats for 12 people...and New Zealand. With the game in the fragile state that it is in, I certainly would not be bashing a play group that had 11 players show up (HEY! our turnout is actually improving from year to year!). Instead, be happy that tournaments for this game that has not had corporate backing since MoTF is still going on. Be happy that there are still people passionate about this game to discuss something like the Klat Assassins for however many pages it's at. Well said, lets quit shooting ourselves in the foot. If you have something nasty to say, say it over a BM. Better yet just keep it to yourself. Feel free to call me out to if any of you guys ever see me running my mouth on here. So, now that we are done measuring (cough), lets get back to the thread. if it was a (cough) measuring match i am sure AceAce would come up a 1/4 inch short lol.

This whole thing was started by Scruffy Han's tongue-in-cheek play report. Some of us got it, some of us didn't. I can appreciate the humor in it, except that without provocation he drew Tim into it. Those who were there could appreciate the humor, but was Tim in on it?
There are good players in the Tn group...players who are capable of making an impact on the national scene. I get that not everyone can go to GenCon, but that's a good way to test your local meta against the national one. It doesn't invalidate it if you don't, the NZ guys being the case in point. What people were saying here is that yeah, the klats are undercosted and pretty much the go to piece for their cost, but they're not broken. They influence the meta on a national level, but don't shape it. You want to prove your point that your meta is where the game is going? Come to GenCon and kick some butt. Or, like the NZ guys do, report what you're seeing without all of the controversy. In my opinion, the NZ guys are the class of our community...a great player group who play the game with skill and enthusiasm.
Ultrastar, you like to keep pointing out that there are declining numbers in the game everytime someone 'bashes' your group. I don't think YOU get it...people aren't bashing your group for their playing ability, they're bashing it for the controversy they stir up. This IS a shrinking community that needs some cohesiveness, not infighting. You want people to take your group seriously? (Which they should, because you have good players and and enthusiasm) Then don't take cheap shots at those who weren't there and if you can come to GenCon, don't drop and disappear after losing a few games.

+1 to this. As small of a community as we are nowadays, there is no need to fight amongst ourselves. (IF you have to fight with someone take it out on those dang Hero clix players )

The only part of your post that I'm even going to take the time to respond to, is your Gencon comments. If going to GENCON, and proving our point is what it takes to be "taken seriously" I would rather not be taken seriously. EVER. Because I've said it before, I'll say it again, local regionals are more fun and and entertaining then GENCON. Super crowded, if you want to grab a bite to eat, I hope you can finish your opponent in 30 minutes or less, because it will take you that long to fight through the crowds, wait through line, order, get your food, and fight through the crowds again. Want to use the bathroom? See above. Except this time you have to go explore for a bathroom. Also expect to overpay for every event you participate in, and what about prize support? Please, don't make me laugh. Expect a good hearty handshake because we do this for the love of the game. I promise you, heroclix and magic do not get the turnouts they have for tournaments for the "Love of The Game". Yeah we don't have corporate backing, that means we should be more creative. And everyone should get quality prize support for not only traveling to Gencon but for participating as well. Not just some "Promo" cards, or a pack of Galaxy at War. For what is supposed to be the "World Championship" event or attraction for our game, it should be A LOT better.

For what is supposed to be the "World Championship" event or attraction for our game, it should be A LOT better. i actually enjoy going to gen-con every year, and have been going and playing star wars minis since 2006. Yeah there are lines, but if you know how to work the schedules and plan things out well you don't pay an arm and a leg, or have to wait a long time to get food. As to the prize support, there is no way you could give everyone the amount of prize support you are implying. Even when wizards was running the show, they didn't give prize support to everyone. Its just not feasible. As long as i have been going no game at gen-con gives that kind of support. And generally the cost of the Event, at least for our game, is the minimum cost it takes to be able to host an even at gencon. In comparison with other games and even years past, i will be spending less than $100 on my SWM events this year, even though i am doing about the same amount. this is generally in due to the fact that they have dropped the costs (and in reaction prize support) to make it more affordable and allow people to have fun. It may not be your pick of events to go to. Many do like it, but you really cant complain when people don't know who you are if you don't participate in more than just one major competitive event a year. And the cost of the Badge and travel generally is not included to most people when figuring in prize support, mostly because they are coming for many different reasons and games. Generally people don't just play 1 game at a convention of this type, they tend to try new games, see what is coming out, and generally enjoy the atmosphere as well as the Vendor hall.

We're getting customs in the sealed event. The mystery map in the mystery map event. I think that's pretty good prize support.
